I have to admit, those guys definitely have talent. We even discussed a possiblity of brining J.R. to Pistons. Here's another opinion.
Attitude: Why J.R. Smith (And Others!) Won’t Get Paid
These seven young, talented players don’t deserve big-time contracts.

Let's not cheat some of these guys. If you're just inconsistent like half the league, that doesn't make you a bad guy.

But if you're borderline criminal, he's walking down the wrong side of the street.
Some of these guys just have a big mouth and are miss understood.

One thing is for sure JD will give you a psych test.

Talent with bad attitude or other problems? No problem. I'll take Chris Mullins, Kobe Bryant's Charles Oakley, AI, KG (yes, he has a real bad attitude), and Ron Ron's any day.
It's the talent that's lazy, has no drive, or only feels like playing when they feel like it that teams should run away from. Guys like Kwame, Derrick Coleman, Vince Carter, and Eddie Curry.

That's the whole thing. You can overlook bad attitude if it is not laziness or not giving a ... (insert as you wish).

I think the Ryne Nelson piece was pretty harsh. You reduce it to where they were picked in the draft and the contract amount designated by that pick number and it all seems pretty black & white according to Nelson.
Young players getting a career tattooing because some GM makes a crappy selection is really the premise here. Nelson doesn't see shades of gray.
A top 10 pick is really under pressure to perform in a time when most only have two years of college ball on their resume.
Then a guy like this (Nelson), offering up very little insight into each of the individuals mentioned situations just crucifies them. Man that's harsh stuff.
It's just too early in all of their careers to start calling them malcontents.

Note that having a bad attitude w/o superstar talent means no juicy long term contracts for players as no team wants to take the risk. Ron Ron is still trying to land that dream job which no team wants to give him to date. KG, AI and Kobe are exceptions because they have superstar talent, they are better than good. People will only out with so much crap, unless you are frickin Einstein.
