I don't think the money is the real issue, they are a roster spot as well. It would be different if you could send them to the D-league and not have him count against your roster, but you can't. I really don't see how you can bag on a GM that has given you a team capable of winning the last 6 champs. Granted, they have only won one, but that is still more than most teams win. I wasn't thrilled with the draft either, but after Rodney White and Darko Joe has become very conservative in the draft and for the most part that has paid off.
The 29th pick averages a little over a mil. per year with a 3-year guarantee. ...about what Linas Kleiza or Kevin Martin make.
Stuckey's playing on the US Select team, the team that will scrimmage against the US Olympic team. Langlois reported on it, I believe. I know it's just scrimmage, but it's always good to play against great competition.
Yeah I read that story too I'm looking forward to it. That team is going to get slaughtered, it's like a rookie vs. all star game. I think it happens after summer league though.
Don't try? He traded down and got the exact player he said he was going to pick if the Sonics did't offer up the trade. I am just saying that instead of making the name splash pick (CDR, etc.) that probably wouldn't have paid off he went with a lesser know name that he feels will help us and got some ammo to store in Europe for a little while. He is a very savy GM who has done nothing but earn our respect and faith.
Conservative means he doesnt go out on a limb, he plays it safe, he doesnt try to hit a home run. I cant accuse you of not trying, but thats all you're doing. Youre still not taking me with you.
No he doesn't swing for the fences every time at bat (Rob Deere) but he consistantly tries to help make the team better (Placido or Mags)
Oh please dont use players playing for a team that swings at more balls than any other team in the league. They are so like Joe. Underacheiving part and all.
I would expect that Joe has a better knowledge of the players he took. Don't forget, Pistons already have an undersized 4 that they like in Maxiell, and they have a project center in Samb. From Joe's perspective there wasn't anyone out there worth taking that could contribute. And I would trust his judgement more than any non-basketball people or sports writers.
OMG, the sky is falling!!!! Can't believe Joe passed on not one but two or three future LBJ caliber players!!! This is it!!! No more Pistons for me!!! Don't want this underachieving mediocrity!!! Have a nice day.
I'm surprised that we haven't heard from lee yet regarding the fact that Curry needs to get Sharpe, Plaisted and Washington more burn.
I think a big trade is coming and I say that because we traded out of the 1st round. My guess is that we will be taking some high salaried players and Joe didn't want to waste even $1 million on a 1st round pick and put the team too much over the luxury tax. If this is not the case, then I would agree with some of the posters. Why not grab CDR or Walker with the 1st 2nd round pick and Walter with the 2nd pick? However, I can't say much since Joe has been pretty good about finding diamonds in the rough (Amir, Okur, Prince, etc.) I would also agree with the posters that stated we have enough young guys we are trying to develop. That is probably the most accurate statement I have read in a long time. It does suck that of all the years to have such a good regular season it had to be this year. I am pretty sure that there were about 20 really good players in the draft (all of which were drafted before we had our pick).
I just read that Meija has been replaced by Dee Brown (Illinois) on the summer league roster due to an ankle sprain. I'm sure that there will be some 356ish conspiracy theory about how Curry stuck a banana peel under Sammy's foot and we'll all be challenged to link to an article that proves that it didn't happen.
