I really do hope that we are only this bad for one season due to being innundated with injuries, forced to play rookies major minutes (all 3 of them), plugging holes, plugging holes and plugging holes, a new coach, 3 free agents and a relatively young squad.

Please, I don't even want to think about the years and years of the stackhouse era, the Grant Hill experiment and the years before the Bad Boys.

I hope that we have not hit that infamous dry spell that all teams seem to go through periodically. Unfortunately these spells seem to last for a few years.

Can we suddenly bounce back from a horrid year in one season?

Detroit Pistons - record by day of week

    Monday - 4-1 (0.800)
    Tuesday - 10-2 (0.833)
    Wednesday - 12-1 (0.923)
    Thursday - 5-0 (1.000)
    Friday - 15-2 (0.882)
    Saturday - 6-6 (0.500)
    Sunday - 6-2 (0.750)

Saturday is the trough and the winning percentage steadily climbs to Thursday and then begins to fall heading back into bleak Saturday.

Considering the current strength of the East, it's not out of the question. But it all depends on whether you consider bouncing back to be 'a playoff team', or a 'title contender'.

Phase 1 of Joe's plan was completed last off-season by signing long-term pieces CV and Bengo, not re-signing vets McDyess, Sheed and AI, ditching Curry and signing Kuester. Note, I said Joe's plan. Whether it was any good is still a point of debate.

Phase 2 surely must be to to bring some balance to this team and at least another long-term piece and/or big FA/trade signing. Until this roster is balanced out it is not good enough. The potential for growth 'as is' just isn't there.

If we address our weaknesses later this season or during the off-season (and there are many), then there is a realistic chance we can become a 2nd round playoff team by next season.

What is slightly annoying me is that Joe has been very quiet on the trade rumour front.

You are hearing names from teams like Chicago, Philly, Utah, Wizards, etc, right now. But not one whisper of Detroit. I think our name should be mentioned in almost any trade rumour right now, no matter how absurd or ill-fitting. At least to show other teams that we are open to dealing. Is Joe asleep at the wheel or what?

We are deep at G but who runs the O ? We are weak at SF, the guy Lee likes in the DL would be nice.

Thats the part that bothers me the most. In the past he would vehemently
deny being the part of any rumors. This year it would at least be a sign that he is still on the job.

I perused today's entire HoopHypes rumors and not a nary mention of the Pistons in any trades rumors. Not even a mention of Pistons having interest in PG Rafer Alston who is definitely an upgrade over Chucky Atkins....but alas he will sign with the Heat and feed Wade.

I think Joe's been on holiday the past couple of weeks and has no idea that his team is 10 game free fall. Probably over in Europe looking for the next Nowitski or Darko or Memo...

For sure, I mean there are guys who are basically begging to shipped out. Nate Robinson, Caron Butler...

Surely we could offer the Knicks something for Nate? He would be dynamite off the bench.

I mean how hard would this be to pull off?

    Robinson ($4m expiring)
    for
    Kwame ($4m expiring)

At least shoot them an offer!

Hey, if they want to give him away why not? He can always be a trading chip later.

Or if we trade Rip, you'd have a 3 guard rotation of Stuckey, Gordon and Nate. At least we'd have some scoring off the bench.

If you think about it; we just made a trade that cost us nothing and we got Rip, Tay and Bengo out of it. Give these guys time to get into a rhythm and then let's see where we are. We just added 3 new pieces to our roster and need to see how they fit together before we make any moves.

Interesting. Wall and Stuckey could be the new Isaiah and Joe, with Vinnie Gordon off the bench. It's a long shot, of course.

    That is interesting to ponder.

Would this be Rip's last year of his deal if he did not sign his extension or would it have been last year. It would be interesting to think what his value would be if not for all the years and $$ left on his deal.

Well, typically Joe's been always quiet about trades. If anything, the absence of Detroit from trade rumors is encouraging.

Also, there's no reason why anyone who's not a Pistons fan to be thinking about Pistons in trade scenarios right now. Almost all trade scenarios involve a team that either:
    • has a whiner who wants out
    • is trying to get under the cap
    • is a contender.
We fall in the none of the above category. At the moment we are as interesting as Sacramento Kings for the rest of the league.
