2006 VSL: Game 1 - DET vs WSH

    Recap:
Ok folks; let’s get this thing off and running. Here are a few first impressions:

    - Amir Johnson doesn’t look like he’s bulked up visually, but physically speaking he seems to be a bit stronger than last year.

    - Samb makes Amir Johnson look like Ben Wallace. He also sat near the coaching staff on the bench and was pretty quiet, but didn’t really look like he didn’t fit with the rest of the guys.

    - Mateen appears to have kept himself in awesome shape

    - Maxiell doesn’t really seem to be any more defined than last year. I wonder if he’s been hitting the weights.

    - The PA announcer is struggling…hard.

    - The timekeeper needs to form a working relationship with the shot clock.

    - Upon approaching Mike Abdenour, I got the “Oh wait, I don’t know you…ok, what do you want?” look. Fun. (See previous commentary about guys making you feel like a tool.)

Lots more HERE courtesy of The Low including pictures!!!

Alex Acker played well and got 7 rebounds. It's only the Summer League, but maybe he becomes the first backup for Rip instead of Linsay this Regular Season.

Jason Maxiell forced himself to the foul line. Sure he made only 5-11, but we know this Piston team needs a guy who loks to go inside before settling for the jump shot.

Pistons only had 5 TO's to Washingtons 19. Plus possible guard backups Blalock and Acker each had 0 turnovers.

Only bad thing I can see out of the boxscore is that Acker and Blalock took a total of 28 shots and only dished 7 assists. I know most of us want more of a passer to back up Big Shot next season than a shooter.

Very nice recap. I'm kinda worried about Samb though, it seems like he isn't doing very well on his first day of work. =\

    Well done Low...
Looks like the pattern from last year continues... Acker is smooth and a steady contributer... Amir gets things going on the the run ... & Jmax...well is the... Brahma

I'm starting to think that Jmax is ready to push Dice...
I believe that Acker with his ambidextrous skills will be an asset at SG... having PG skills at this position puts a lot of pressure on the defense.
Still waiting for Blalock to be a difference maker... the rest are future potential reserves or just filling out the roster.

What primary positions did Acker & Amir play?

Great work guys. Props to Low and Roscoe.

Low, would appreciate you summarizing your overall impression of the Pistons youth at the conclusion of the Summer League: which ones have the potential to be NBA players (and by when), their strengths/weaknesses, potential etc.

    Once again, good work.:thumb:

The Low- you a insightful. Keep up the good work.

Roscoe and team- you all are making the real reporters look like fools. Stay the course.

    Thanks, you guys.

JMax better get minutes this year, or I am going to flip.

Absolutely, Robert. Except change "real" to "paid". These guys ARE the real reporters.

It's too bad you guys couldn't receive press passes. You certainly deserved them. Hopefully, you can show them your work from this week and get them next year.

I gave Calvin Booth a ride. The whole time he talked to someone on his cell about how the Wiz. kept Gooden from getting a police blotter and how Gooden should keep his mouth shut about what happened to Arenas.

The Low - - your efforts are definitely appreciated. You are cementing my belief that JMax needs some minutes, and I'm now far more excited about Acker than I was last season. Let's hope he translates the confidence you noticed into regular season play.

It wasn't for lack of trying. :)

I believe Acker is a 2 and Amir is a 3. Basically all 5 of the young guys the Pistons have fill every position.

    Will Blalock: 1 (Point Guard)
    Alex Acker: 2 (Shooting Guard)
    Amir Johnson: 3 (Small Forward)
Jason Maxiell: 3/4 (Small Forward/Power Forward)
    Cheik Samb: 5 (Center)
