Add me to the list. I don't have anything worthwhile to do.

It looks like all the usual suspects have gathered!!!

Folks, we're ready to roll however the format has changed since last year.

Instead of posting directly to a thread, we are going to take submissions through a form. This will standardize the responses and dramatically reduce the chance of any errors, as well as the time required to "mark" the entries.

Please see the competition information page for specific details and a link to the form.

I recommend you download and use our printable bracket as a "scratch copy". It will make your form easier to fill out. MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ENTRIES!

I would appreciate if folks would let me know of any errors you find.

    Bump.

Let's go folks. You've got just over 24 hours to get your brackets in! See the first post in this thread for details!

I'm not sure if this has been covered yet, but the error for tie breakers should be calculated like so:
Predicted outcome between T1 and T2:
    P_T1 to P_T2
    Actual outcome:
    A_T1 to A_T2
    Error
    |P_T1-A_T1|+|P_T2-P_T2|

That way, in the example the error from the SAS-SAC round would be 1, not 0.

So, we finally find a use for absolute values.

I am totally lost on the P_T1 and P_T2? Can you explain it to me with the team names?

The way you have it is fine, Roscoe. It's already the same as what Wingspan is suggesting. He's talking about getting the total error from the SAS-SAC series in one calculation, and what you have is separate numbers for SAS and for SAC that are added together at the end, so it's all the same.

Roscoe already has absolute values in his original tiebreaker explanation. :thumb:

Yeah, it's exactly the same. My bad: I didn't look carefully at what Roscoe wrote. I was just about to delete my post.

But "P" stood for predicted result, and "A" stood for actual result in what I wrote. P_T1 = "Number of wins predicted for team 1". Sorry, I read physics equations all day.

And I'm a mathematician by training, which explains why I was able to grasp your notation right away...and also why I was able to get excited about proper use of absolute values.

I just copied what BillLaimbeer sent me last year when I asked for his help on a tie breaking scheme. :dizzy2:

    Thanks for looking out guys.

Geez, I can't believe I picked Miami to beat the Bulls 4-3. Horrible!

I picked the same. I was pulling for the Bulls, but I didn't think they could get past Wade's 20+ FT attempts.

I'm sitting pretty well with every matchup so far.

Well, except Dallas / Golden State.

I still believe they can come back.:fingerscr

That's how bookies make their $$$. Sports are just too unpredictable. I think we all can agree that picking winners in the playoffs is a very thanksless task.
