I wanted to post a couple of small NFL related, but non new thread worthy items recently but couldn't find a good spot to put them, so I created this thread. Feel free to put any non Lions related NFL season talk/articles/comments, etc. that you don't want to start a separate thread for in here.
I fully expect the Packers to win the NFC Central division. They'll do it on the back of Brett Favre and a surging defense............They'll take two from the Lions.
Oh man, I just caught this little diddy on YouTube. It's a story about injured Bills tight end Kevin Everett, but the VIDEO is for a completely different story. You just have to watch it to believe it. I don't want to give anything away. So go watch it right now. I'll wait.... YouTube - Kevin Everett... kicks cop? - Mixed-up Sports Video
.... done yet? Talk about the worst possible video to mess up. It wasn't like it was a video of some guy giving away free balloons to under privileged kids. Nope. It was a video of a guy KICKING A COP. The icing on the cake is how it matched perfectly with what the reporter was saying. Yeah, he sure did move those legs. In fact, right after regaining mobility in his legs he KICKED A COP! Wow. Someone sure has egg on their face over that one. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting. Disclaimer: I don't find the Kevin Everett injury funny in the least. That was a horrific injury and I'm very happy that he is doing as well as he is. I also don't find kicking a cop (or anyone for that matter) funny. But common, that video is FUNNY!
Adrian Peterson is going off. 270 total yards and 3 TD's with 7 minutes left in the 4th Q against the SD defense. I don't know much about NFL football, but that seems pretty impressive.
Wow, Adrian Peterson is the REAL DEAL. I keep waiting for him to hit a wall, but it hasn't happened yet. Going into today's game he has 740 rushing yards, 105.7 per game, 5.8 per carry, 5 TDs and 11 catches for 187 yards and a TD. In today's game he has 27 carries for 251 rushing yards, 9.3 yards per carry, and 3 TDs and 1 catch for 19 yards.
Wouldn't you know that Darth has Peterson on his fantasy team and I'm playing him this week. Good thing the rest of his team sucks.
He set a single game NFL rushing record in only his eighth game. He had 296 rushing yards in the game. He is also the only rookie EVER to rush for 200 yards in 2 separate games in his rookie season - and he still has 8 games left to top that. Wow. Impressive.
Len Pasquarelli has come out with his Mid-Season All-Pro Team. Not 1 Lion made the squad. Offensive Team WR - Randy Moss - Pats WR - Braylon Edwards - Browns TE - Antonio Gates - Chargers LT - Matt Light - Pats LG - Eric Steinbach - Browns C - Andre Gurode - Cowboys RG - Chris Snee - Giants RT - Mark Tauscher - Packers QB - Tom Brady - Pats RB - Adrian Peterson - Vikings RB - Brian Westbrook - Eagles K - Rob Bironas - Titans P - Andy Lee - 49ers KR - Leon Washington - Jets PR - Devin Hester - Bears ESPN - Pasquarelli: Offensive Midseason All-Pros - NFL Defensive Team RE - Jared Allen - KC Chiefs DT - Albert Haynesworth - Titans DT - Tommie Harris - Bears LE - Aaron Kampman - Packers OLB - Mike Vrabel - Patriots MLB - Barrett Ruud - Bucs OLB - Keith Bullocks - Titans CB - Asante Samuel - Patriots CB - Charles Woodson - Packers SS - Bob Sanders - Colts FS - Sean Taylor - Skins ESPN - Pasquarelli: Defensive Midseason All-Pros - NFL Your thoughts?
The Lions offense is only 12th statistically, in total yards this season. The defense is 28th in total yards given up this year. We just don't look that good on paper, except for the win - loss stat. We are playing a better team game with many takeaways and opportunities being capitalized on. Rogers has to get rid of his rep as a slacker to become listed on all pro teams.
[SARCASM]Classy move[/SARCASM] by the Vikings organization. They've docked the pay of WR Troy Williamson for missing last Sunday's game because he was attending his grandmother's funeral. ESPN - Vikings dock WR Williamson pay for family funeral - NFL Apparently people are only permitted to pass away in the offseason.
Ridiculous stuff. In one of my classes today, our professor put up a quote that said, "The two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity. But not in that order."
Betcha the HR person who made this decision and his boss will not lose any pay if they took a day off for bereavement. The Pistons let Rip slide on two games to see and assist with his son's birth and the Jazz gave D Fisher time off to see about his ill daughter during the playoffs... what this means is that a professional team will allow you time off with pay look after the living, but not the dearly departed?? Or is this an NFL thing because of limited number of games??? Or is it a Vikings thing??
The Vikings aren't going anywhere this season anyway. It's not like he missed the Super Bowl. He missed a meaningless game for a meaningless team. But even if it was the Super Bowl, when someone in your family dies, that takes precedence over a GAME. I just don't see why the Vikings would do this. Is the money saved really worth risking alienating your players over? Not exactly a "Welcome" sign for potential FAs.
Call it a game, call it a job - any way you look at it, it's truly gutless to refuse pay for these kind of extenuating circumstances. For a wealthy athlete it's not hurting him much financially, but it's a big slap in the face. I hope we hear that the Player's Association is planning to challenge this. That's what they are there for. In any other job field, your union would not stand for something like this, I suspect.
I agree, it isn't about the money at all. Unlike our friend Spreewell, I don't think that Williamson or any of his family members will go hungry because of the loss of income. It's also not like the Vikings would go bankrupt without the extra $25,000. Like you said, it's a slap in the face. It shows an absolute lack of class and respect. I believe I read somewhere that the union will be filing a grievance - as well they should.
actually the team did give him his money after the fact.... puplic bad pr is wonderful thing. he has said he's going to donate the money to charity also.... class act by him.
Thanks for the update. I hadn't heard that. The Vikings get no credit from me for that. They had no choice. Either they do it now "voluntarily" or they pay it later after they're forced to. Very classy move by Williamson to donate the money.
