Red Wings re-singed goaltender Jimmy Howard and defensman Jonathan Ericsson. Ericsson locked up for $2.7 mil over 3 years, no terms have been disclosed on Howard.

Wings also made offers to McCarty and Downey. My understanding is that they got offered two-way contracts that won't count against the cap if the players are sent to the minors. I believe that's the sticking point with both guys, but we'll see.

Sharks still undefeated in regulation at home.

19-0-2. Pretty amazing that the Wings are only 3 points back.

I guess the Dallas game was a look ahead. They were up like 4-0 then lost 5-4. !?

Did the Wings lose their last 3 games heading into the playoffs?? Looks like they only won 3 out of their last 10... Guess they are resting their guys for the playoffs???

They will play the Ducks who finished the season winning 7 out of 10. We can only hope that Giguere is not the hot goalie he was a couple years back when the Ducks took out the Wings.

My friend who follows Hockey closely stopped by the other day and told me no one wants to play Anaheim.

I'm following NHL closely enough to confirm that nobody wants to play Anahein not b/c of afraid of losing but Ducks habits to injure players( easier to do in POs due to more physical style allowed by refs).

...and it is President Trophy winner San Jose who has to play with them.

The las two weeks or so I noticed that Babcock experimented with different lines, different strategies, etc.

1st round opponent Columbus relies on goalie Mason and speedy Nash.
