With all this basketball and football talk, I thought I should get the hockey talk started. Particularly with all the exciting things going on with the Red Wings (and Lightning, lol).

Do we even have a commissioner for hockey yet? I know we threw a lot of stuff around. Here is my wish list:

    Head to head

    Ten teams

    Live draft

Weekly (not daily) lineups (but extra positions play every day)

So every day you can potentially play:

    2 goalies

    3 Centers

    5 Wings

    1 flex (utility)

    3 Defenseman

    also:

    3 bench

    1 IR

Now remember, teams only play about 3 or 4 times per week max, so most days you won't be able to play all these guys).

We wouldn't need to limit roster moves because you can't stream (Tater) in a weekly setting.

Roscoe is banned from joining (negotiable)

Jammer is banned from joining (non-negotiable)

It's not quite time to set it up yet, but we are getting close.

    Categories:

Goals, Assists, Power play goals, Power play assists, Game winning goals (yes, it's back), Short handed goals, short handed assists,
    face offs won,

Wins, Goals against, Save pct, Shut outs.

Maybe losses and penalty minutes ? (negotiable)

I'm willing to be commissioner, but if so, I really am going to want these settings. If someone else wants to do it and make their own settings that's cool with me...I'll support you fully. :)

    Thoughts? Anyone interested?

I like it, except I'm kind of lukewarm to the weekly lineup changes.

I felt exactly the same way about weekly lineups until I tried it in baseball. I really love it now. People can't stream. You also don't agonize daily over who to put in there so you only need to mess with your lineup once a week. Early week injuries are a pain, but generally, they really don't affect you that much in the end.

I fell in love with weekly as well. At first I wasn't a fan, but now it is a REAL time saver and doesn't put you at a disadvantage if you can't check your lineup every five minutes (Tater) it also eliminates Tatering (Tater, Mikhail, etc.), which I HATE!!!! :gun1::gun1::gun1:

I'm in a daily baseball league as well as the weekly PF.com baseball league and let me tell you, there's a HUGE difference - especially for baseball, where you have to constantly be aware of when your SP is scheduled to pitch. This applies to a lesser extent to hockey as well for goalies.

I'm fine with all of the settings (except for the part about me being banned ), but I'll add my 2 cents anyway.

I'm not a big fan of PIMs, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they were included. I can appreciate the fact that they add a bit more strategy to things, but to me, they're a 100% negative stat. If included at all, they should be considered a negative (just like Ks for a batter in baseball).

Five active wingers, 3 Cs, 1 util and 3 bench spot seems like a lot to me. Depending on the # of teams, the FA pickings might be slim should an injury arise. It'll make drafting that much more important (ok for teams that do well, but not so good for managers that aren't able to attend the draft).

My suggestion would be to remove 1 of the winger spots and add a 2nd IR spot. C's are deep so 3 shouldn't be an issue. I think 3 D is a good #. If teams want more, they can use a bench spot.

Tater has my vote for commish.

I agree with almost everything. I like the weekly lineups. I don't think we should have the penalty minutes. Everything else sounds good...

Yeah, you're right. I like the idea of an extra bench spot over a 2nd IR.

If it was a keeper league, I'd say go with the 2nd IR, since you don't want to drop your top player who's out for the rest of the year with an injury, but you also don't want it to handcuff your current season.

    K, so we have:

    Live draft

    Weekly (not daily) lineups

    2 goalies

    3 Centers

    4 Wings

    1 flex (utility)

    3 Defenseman

    4 bench

    1 IR

Jammer is banned from joining (non-negotiable)

Goals, Assists, Power play goals, Power play assists, Game winning goals , Short handed goals, short handed assists, face offs won,

Wins, Goals against, Save pct, Shut outs.

I'm really comfortable with these settings. :) We'll see what the others have to say.

If everyone is up for weekly, it's fine with me. It's not my preference, but I have nothing against it.

I'm partial to PIM. Need to think the rest over. Bans sound good too. :)

Duh. I forgot plus//minus. So that too.

I believe sign up on Yahoo is in late August.

Jammer's mommy phoned me and threw a hissy fit about us picking on him by not allowing him in the league. Something about "You blasted Americans...blah blah blah, eh..." So anyhow, between her and the threatening phone calls his wife is making to me (You jerk, eh!! He is driving me crazy with all of his idle time, eh. I wish he would get a job, eh. Let him play so he quits following me around the house all day, eh...". Sigh. I think we need to just let him join.

Oh yeah...Roscoe likes penalty minutes. More feedback on that one? Really, I'm ok on that either way.

When you guys get done screwing around with the rules, let me know.

It'll take time to figure out what to do, so decide soon. I'm a slow learner.

Pretty certain we've got this, Woody:

    Live draft

    Weekly (not daily) lineups

    2 goalies

    3 Centers

    4 Wings

    1 flex (utility)

    3 Defenseman

    also:

    4 bench

    1 IR

Goals, Assists, Power play goals, Power play assists, Game winning goals , Short handed goals, short handed assists, face offs won, Plus/minus

Wins, Goals against, Save pct, Shut outs.

The only thing we aren't sure of is penalty minutes, but unless it gets a bit more support, it's out.

I'm ok with penalty minutes out immediately, provided we can get say 3 or more from last year to say nay. I don't want to assume silence means it should be out.

Any of Bezeach, Tater, Mik, Woodrow, Jammerpants, (I'm probably forgetting people), Super, Laimbs etc. 3 say it is out, I'm ok with dropping it immediately and moving on.

I don't care about PM one way or another, but lets just settle on something.

I'm already on record as saying I hate the PIM stat, but it looks like I'm outnumbered, so I'm just going to have to quit the league in protest and open my own All Canuckian league.

...Ok, not really. If majority rules, I'm ok with it. Although, since I am Canadian, and Canada IS hockey, I think that my vote should count as 3.

Well, I only said three because I wanted to be sure we had a concensus. I'm not married to the idea of the PIM stat, if we don't have it, no big deal.

I don't see why you would want to include a stat (penalty minutes) that actually hurts a team's chance to win a game. Then again, I am just a United States citizen, and my vote only counts as one.

O.K., now, what's a FLEX?? Does he have to do Yoga?? Can he play three positions? Do his ears hang low? Name me some good "flexes".

What's a bench?? Does that mean you can have four guys who don't play each week?

    I need help.

As far as PIM, does that mean that's bad?? Do you need to get and all-pansie team?
