Damn you bill!! Mark-Andre Fluerry may have won the whole series thing for them tonight. 100 minutes of hell and we go back to the Pit The champaign had already been uncorked. People had already text their bosses with hangover excuses of why they would be late for work...if they even made it in NBC was already checking their Neilsen customers for overnight ratings. Bettman is happy !!!!
its 12 freekin 51 in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after this series, i'm taking a 3 month sabbitical from tv sports! ......at least TOOTSIE IS ON TCM!
Sucks that Pitt got 8 minutes of power play in the OT and Wings got 2 on their own ice. Fleury kept Pitt in it. The Wings can still do this!
Mickey Redmond doing the local post game. He said the Wings were nervous before the game...? Then went on to say they'll be more relaxed on the road...?
Yeah the Wings did look nervous to start the game with the turnovers etc, but those first 15 minutes of the third qtr was some of the best Wings play of the playoffs. It's only a shame that they could not get that insurance goal and send the fans partying into the night. Did the wings get distracted in the last 50 seconds because they saw some employees of the Joe pushing the Stanley Cup trophy up the tunnel? I hope it is not an omen, but didn't the series vs the Ducks change last year on a late game tying goal with 48 seconds left in the game and then they won in OT to take a 3-2 series lead and eventually beat the deadwings. The Red Wings led that series 2-1 before losing 4-2.
It was a lot of pressure with the fans cheering "We want the Cup!" and all that. I can see how it would make them nervous. I blame this whole loss on Samuelsson. He had a chance to clear it with about 45 seconds left, instead he back handed it to the top of the circle. The Pens grabbed it, and scored less than 10 seconds later. He got demoted top the 4th line earlier in the playoffs, and I can't for the life of me understand why he was playing in the pressure cooker last night.
It's hard to pick one play in a 100+ minute game and say that was the deciding factor. If Filpula didn't take the dumb penalty, then Samuelsson wouldn't even have been in that position.
Hard to pin it all on Samuelsson, but you're right about this team not clearing the puck. They clear the puck, they hold the Cup. Now, Pittsburgh has a chance. Detroit let the Cup slip through its fingers.
