There was a surprise on the first day of the NHL playoffs as Calgary held on to a 3-2 victory over San Jose on the road with Kiprusoff stopping 37 shots. San Jose's psyche has not been strong, as we've learned during their loss to the Red Wings, so this is something to watch for. Pittsburgh was all over Ottawa 4-0, which was no surprise as Ottawa kind of backed their way into the playoffs after a very strong beginning to the season. Rangers continued their dominance of the Devils winning 4-1 in New Jersey. And Joe Sakic added to his record of game winning overtime goals with the 8th overtime GWG in the 1st overtime to lift Colorado over Minnesota 3-2.
He's one cool player that I never had any animosity towards when Wings had this great rivalry with Avs. By the way, if Avs win, there is a chance that Wings will play them in the next round. Obviously some things need to fall in place - Anaheim, San Jose, and Wings need to win their series.
I don't follow Ice Hockey but thought I'd let everyone know I touched the Stanley Cup yesterday at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. I went there to make my mate from Winnipeg jealous, but it was interesting all the same. He shoots he scores!!!!
Webz...way cool. Now that you are a hockey expert you have to join the fantasy league next season. We will have an open spot. Mikhail is kicked out for posting those pictures. I feel ILL!
The Montreal vs Boston game tonight is a great one. Lots of hitting, end to end action, great pace. You guys should check it out if you get it in your area.
Games 1 and 2 of this series were played in Montreal and the fans really focused in on Zdeno Chara and Boo'd him mercilessly every time he touched the puck. Tonight's game is in Boston, but there are a lot of Habs fans at the game. You can still hear a pretty good amount of Booing every time he touches the puck. I had to leave the room for a minute and someone scored while I was gone. With all of the chearing, I assumed that it was Boston. But it turned out that it was Montreal! The Habs fans as loud as the Bruins fans.
Is anyone surprised about the way Dallas has handled Anaheim so far? I know the series is not over, but it was a statement alright going to California and taking 2 from the Ducks. Maybe this year Dallas will do the dirty work for the Wings?
Sharks blow a 3-0 lead to lose to Calgary. That has been an entertaining series. How many of these blows can Sharks' players psyche take I wonder?
Montreal shuts out Boston 1-0 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Game 5 is in Montreal. Flyers beat up on Washington 6-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Anaheim finally showing some life winning at Dallas 4-2 to get back in the series which Dallas is now leading 2-1. Game 4 is in Dallas. Colorado beat Minnesota 5-1 to tie that series at 2. And finally San Jose scored twice in the third period to gut out a comeback win at Calgary 3-2. That series is now tied at 2 with game 5 in San Jose.
Anaheim's run is over. Dallas beats them 4-1 in the game and 4-2 in the series. Colorado moves to the second round as well as Wings. Sharks and Flames have game 7 coming up down the street in San Jose. In the East, Rangers knocked out Devils, Pens get revenge on Ottawa. Montreal is hosting Boston in the unexpected game 7 and Washington is in Philly for game 6. Philly is up 3-2 and can move to the second round with a win. Because HNL reseeds after each round, no second round matchups have been decided so far.
I don't think Price has let the Habs down. It's that Montreal has slowed down their finesse game and is getting caught up in Boston's physical style.
