kaman and zach randoph's toxic contract (hey, you've gotta give something to get something) for rip, tay, and kwame (if he opts in)? that'd leave joe with his cap room for this year intact, which he could still use to sign ben gordon and a SF (marvin williams?). the trade & signings would leave detroit with: PG Stuckey, Bynum (?) SG B. Gordon, Afflalo SF M. Williams, Summers / Jerebko PF Randolph, Daye, Maxiell C Kaman, McDyess (?) and the clippers with: PG B. Davis, E. Gordon SG R. Hamilton, E. Gordon, R. Davis SF T. Prince, A. Thornton, R. Davis PF Griffin, Skinner (?) C Camby, D. Jordan (?) can someone help me out here? despite living in l.a., i don't follow the clips closely enough to know the full extent of their depth chart. EDIT: actually, is maxiell making $5 million a year? (tried googling and couldn't find the exact year-by-year breakdown). if that's the case, i think rip, tay, max for kaman, zach, and al thornton could also be a possibility.
I don't understand why you'd trade a projected first round pick such as Chase Budinger, for another second round pick in the future?
Thats the question I have as well. Its not like you're guaranteed Daye is going to pack on at least 20lbs of muscle before the season starts so that he won't get broken in half when he tries to defend someone. At the very least, Budinger could have provided competition for Afflalo to justify his spot on the roster at the 2/3 slot.
Because you're not Joe Dumars! No one goes through more to accumulate 2nd round picks to do less with them than our shrewd leader.
What if Arnie Kander can work his magic and they play Daye at the 5 after he packs on some muscle? He's 6'11 and believed to be still growing. His outside shooting might bring back unpleasant reminders of Sheed, but if they gave him #40 or 44 it probably won't seem so bad.
I was scanning the MSNBC draft grading and saw this. Miami is the only team they gave an F to. Miami Heat (F) This was not about the Heat landing LSU guard Marcus Thornton at No. 43 and then trading him to New Orleans or trading for Lakers second-round pick Patrick Beverley or closing the draft with the inspired selection of Memphis forward Robert Dozier at No. 60. No, this was about how the Heat relinquished its first-round draft choice, the No. 18 selection the Timberwolves used on Ty Lawson -- by trading it in 2007 for Ricky Davis. There are many ways to mortgage a future in the NBA, Ricky Davis should never be one of them. Ty Lawson or Ricky Davis? You make the call.Grade: F Truer words were never spoken.
I liked that kid. I like the fact that he could come off a screen and hit a 3 in his defender's face. He kinda plays like Korver.
I thought Budinger was a good pick and a great value where Joe picked him. Why was he traded? That kid can stroke the ball. Could have been that off the bench 3-pt threat the Pistons were looking for.
Maybe it's some under the table deal that gets Joe a good shot at Shane, Von Wafer, etc... I'm sure that what we read and what gets reported is only part of the story regarding these minor deals.
NBA.com: Budinger blends in with the top picks Not sure why we traded this guy. I remember at the time that it was considered lucky that he fell that far in the draft. Seems like he has a decent stroke. Also, look at the hops in that video. He was a big volleyball guy and he could rise up.
