Alright, I'm in now.
great draft.... for the 5 of us that showed up.... bad marks to you other 5.
Oh crap. I totally forgot.
I am the world's worst Commish.
Actually, with the computer taking decisions out of your hands today, you made some of the best picks I have ever seen you make.
My team sucks.
I'm a little disappointed no one posted in the thread to remind others.
Anyway, I was asleep at draft start anyway. I got a ton of email, and completely missed the Yahoo reminder notices.
Don't feel bad. I just remembered myself. My team sux......
I mentioned a while back that I'm "Midgets on Parade".
Well, Darth and Round were both present for the draft, so at least you don't have the worst team.
Darth is eerily quiet lately. Is it possible he ran out of things to say?
Never. Be careful what you wish for...
I was THRILLED to get the 8th pick. It allowed me to get the guys I wanted.
I took a couple of chances, but nothing too crazy.
As I often do, I drafted my pets at the expense of "better players". But, I've been incredibly blessed the last two years. I have no illusions that I can win three years in a row, so why not indulge myself with favorites this year? I think I have a competitive team, and if not, I can always fix it.
My friend "Know all" just now phoned me after he just saw the Yahoo reminder email from last night. The four of us who were there had fun despite Bill Laimbeer's presence. In fact, we enjoyed laughing at his lame-o picks.:p:D
hey i resemble that remark....
and my team was going great till you jinxed the tigers and picked some of there team members up....
the kiss of death, yes..... given to the 09 tigers by bill
How about A-Rod with the 6th pick in the 4th round? Pure genius....
I usually never get any Tigers. I hope I don't jinx them.
I couldn't turn down Magglio at #6.
I think Verlander is going to break out this season. Getting him in the 12th round will turn out to be a steal.
I just picked up Carlos Guillen to cover for A-Rod until his steroids kick in and he's ready to suit up.
I had to work yesterday, so unfortunately I couldn't make the draft.
I have WAY too many OFs on my team, so if anyone is looking to make a move, let me know.
I could use some pitching help.
Someone send some trade offers. My team looks IDK.
Be careful. Some people will try to take advantage of you.
Your team looks pretty decent to me. Make sure you get a second opinion on trades especially until you get a better feel for the league, who you are dealing with, and a better idea of what's going on.
It's not really my place to say, but I would advise you to PM Roscoe because I think he would be neutral and willing to help a rookie GM. I'm sure if any offer is totally lopsided or ridiculous, as commissioner, he would let you know.
If Roscoe can't be bothered, ask someone else you trust. Not all people agree on all trades, but some offers I've seen are absolutely insane. I would hate to see you ruin your season before it began.
If you want to make a deal, assess your needs first. Then you will have a better idea of what's going on. It's OK to do this general offer thing, but it rarely is successful.
Best way is to see who/what you need or want...and pm another GM with an offer.
Get a second opinion, but I will not nullify a trade if both parties are happy with it. I have learned that this is a bad way to go. 3rd parties always have an opinion on someone else's trade. We've got all forum vets except KnowAll in this league, and KnowAll is Darth's Friend which basically makes him Mother Theresa, so he's cool too.
There was a good example in ADV Basketball this year, people were flipping out over a trade, that ended up working brilliantly for the party the critics thought would be the loser in the deal.
People have to make mistakes and be given a chance to take risks. As long as the trade is in good faith, I don't care how lopsided it may seem. Darth will probably win this darn league anyway, lol
Laissez-faire sports commissioner
PS, Don't ask me for advice on a trade. I am the biggest trade idiot in fantasy history.
I was a victim of people flipping out in my first basketball Novice league.
Again, you may make mistakes (and will make some), but why make them if they can be avoided?
Trades are always risky, but overall I've seen them work out well for everyone. I still urge you to be careful and take at least some precautions before making a trade. It could save your season.
I would have pm'd you. I'm not looking for controversy, but I wanted to reach all the rookie managers and I speak from experience.
Trades in Fantasy Sports are always the biggest cause for controversy. There's no perfect formula for handling them. Everyone - including the commissioner of the league - have a vested interest in how they turn out and as a result, it's impossible to be completely unbiased.
That's why I always think that less interference is the best. As Roscoe has said, if both sides are good with the deal, and no clear collusion is expected, the trade should be allowed to go through regardless of who "won" the trade (which of course is subjective).
Having said all that, we have an excellent group of fantasy GMs here at PF.com and I've had BY FAR the best time and least amount of problems in these leagues. The advice given by both Roscoe and Tater is spot on. Excellent advice for Fantasy Novices and Vets alike.
Now that all that is out of the way, who wants to trade me their first round pick for my 7th round pick and a guy I just picked up off of waivers? Common, it's a 2-for-1 trade. You can't possibly go wrong!
so i was thinking about picking up a few players.... a guy named barry bonds... heard he had some power, and always need another power pitcher so thinking rodger clemens....
any helpful tips?
