Because many of their users switched to ESPN fantasy leagues for that exact reason.

Word. Yahoo is a very good provider - love their layout more than any other, but ESPN currently has the advantage regarding number of extra features such as Auction drafts, free live scoring, etc.

Give us Auction yahoo and all is well.

I think the league should be limited to members with at least 10 posts as of July 21, 2009. :gun1:

Woody only knows half as much about football as he does about Hockey, which means he knows double what Tater and Laimbeer know combined!

The more I think about it, the more I think Auction is definitely the way to go.

Obviously most people haven't done one before so I would highly recommend doing a few mock drafts beforehand to get a taste for it. It can be done on the ESPN website which is where we would be doing our draft (then porting over the rosters to Yahoo).

I think we have 10 interested parties so far. I'm going to email out to some past players over the weekend in case they haven't seen this thread - they would have priority (I don't particularly want more than 12 teams). Darth this will be your last chance. :drillsergeant:

After that I will confirm the entrants and set up the league. We still have roughly 4 weeks until the draft.

Webz, can you give a couple of basic pointers on how the auction works? I've never seen or tried it before.

    Thanks.

In auction, everyone has a chance to win the first pick. That is to say, everyone bids from the salary pool on the players they want.

The draft order is only in who nominates which player comes up for draft first. But once a player is nominated, anyone can bid on and win that player.

So if the draft is you, webz and I, and I pick first, I nominate Peyton Manning, and then you webz and I bid on him. You don't have to bid, although I think the person who nominates does put in a minimum bid for the player so if you nominate an 8th round player early, you might get stuck with him.

It is a much better way of drafting, but one has to resist the urge to spend their money too early, in too large a quantity on a couple players, because they will have trouble filling out the backend of their roster, and their opponents will be filling up with cheap quality depth.

I highly recommend auction. It is awesome and not an event to be missed.

Sounds like it would take a lot of time, 4 hr as opposed to 1 hr.

Maybe 2 hours. But it is loads of fun. Drafting is less a chore, and almost a game within game.

I don't remember the auction draft taking more than an hour or two. It was a blast....not to mention I won the league....
