This is the Discussion thread for the season. Post any draft recaps, trade proposals, trash talk, banter, boasting, crying and complaining here. Firstly, thanks to those who turned up to the draft. I must say it was disappointing that we began the draft with only 5 of the 10 owners present. We had a couple more turn up later, but the auto-draft is not good for all parties involved. It was impossible to obtain one of the stars without overpaying due to the auto-drafters bidding until the ESPN ranking value was reached. Some auto-drafters were allocated 2 or 3 of the first 10-15 players which left them with little money for other players. Still, those who were present managed to make do as best as possible by snaring some great middle round value picks. I dare say there will be quite a few trade proposals flying around in the next week or so. The teams have now been set up in Yahoo so you may begin setting your lineups. There will be the standard 2 day waiting period before you can start claiming players from the waiver wire. Make use of the Trading Block page if you have anyone you'd like to trade. This makes trade proposals easier because others know which players they can target. Click on 'League', then 'Trading Block' --> 'Edit'. eg. Smoooth - you might want to put Addai in there.
I was planning to make the draft, but my youngest son and wife wanted to go to the fair. Family takes precedent over fantasy sports. I did spend some time last night setting my player rankings to ensure I would get a couple of the players that I really wanted. Unfortunately, I got 3 solid running backs and I only need 2. If someone needs a RB, make me an offer (with stud QB and/or WR's). Sorry I missed the draft. Hope those that attended still had fun.
No problem Bill. Hope you had a good time at the fair. I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to deal.
The draft was a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to a fun season. Thanks to Webz for doing all the heavy lifting. PS - The initial Waiver order has been randomly determined by Yahoo. This is because we used an Auction draft. Normally in a Snake draft the waiver order is determined as the reverse of the draft order.
Dynamo and Oranized Chaos still had not set a lineup since the draft so I have entered a default team for them for Week 1 according to the highest draft values. Of course, both teams can still adjust their lineups prior to Week 1, but I set a default lineup just in case they are asleep at the wheel. We don't want teams getting a bunch of zero's.
Thanks Scoe. It's ok, they still have plenty of time, I just wanted to make sure they at least had their positions filled out.
Difficult Schedules 2009 Double Whammy Teams - 3 Categories: 1) Have a Defense That's Expected to Be Poor Stopping the Run And Face a Tough Defensive Schedule in 2009: The following is a list of fantasy football double whammy teams that face defensively tough schedules in 2009 and don’t appear to have defenses strong enough to keep opposing offenses from chewing up the game clock on them, thus limiting the attempts of their own offensive players including during prevent defense time when trailing and looking for garbage fantasy football points. Beware of drafting offensive players from double whammy teams near the average draft position seen in fantasy football mock draft and live draft results, as you might be over paying. The following teams qualify as double whammy teams in this category in 2009. Detroit Lions St. Louis Rams Kansas City Chiefs
Good post Nemo. You're really only looking at a handful of players from those teams that are draftable anyway. Calvin Johnson Kevin Smith Dwayne Bowe Matt Cassell Larry Johnson Steven Jackson Donnie Avery Smith and Jackson are good pass-catchers out of the backfield, so they should be fine. I'd worry about Larry Johnson though. If Bowe and Cassell can establish a rapport they can have solid years. Bowe may see a lot of double teams though. Donnie Avery is borderline rosterable after breaking his foot but has plenty of upside. QB is a concern though. Calvin Johnson proved last year he can put up numbers with any quarterback on the worst team in history. It stands to reason he will have an even better year this year.
I'm not sure I agree with that double whammy theory. Often times, poor defensive teams are losing early so the QB and WRs get big points trying to play catch-up. It's often the RBs that suffer.
Strength of Schedule / Weakness of schedule: Whatever you want to name it, if there’s one free fantasy football draft tip you should take away, it’s to use those strength of schedule charts that are popping up all over the internet. Just remember to make adjustments for injury situations and off-season roster moves because those charts don't always reflect reality! For example, the Minnesota Vikings picked up pass rushing dynamo Jared Allen from the Chiefs in 2008. Strength of schedule charts didn't reflect this added power to the Vikings' defensive line. But it negatively impacted offensive players who faced the Vikings. Meanwhile, teams playing the Chiefs had it easy. In 2009 look for Albert Haynesworth's move from Tennessee to Washington to cause similar ripples. Use strength of schedule to either increase the value of players on your fantasy football draft board or decrease the value accordingly. Teams Facing Easier Schedules in 2009: See the following list of teams with light schedules in 2009. Try to draft players on these teams when faced with a choice of comparable players on other teams. Teams Facing Easy Defensive Schedules That Are Also Expected to Have Top Offenses of Their Own to Take Full Advantage of the Weak Schedule: Green Bay Packers Arizona Cardinals Indianapolis Colts Minnesota Vikings Houston Texans
Interesting results in Week 1. Bezeach v Jammer Jammer got a hiding from Bezeach who built a massive total on the back of Brees' 6 TD's. He is looking like money well spent at this point but he won't face the Lions every week. Jammer will want better weeks from the disappointing Forte and Andre Johnson. Forte has the Steelers this week, so it doesn't get any easier. Mikhail v Adam (Bill Jr) Bill jnr off to a solid start to his title defense. Romo may have played his best game of the season already, but who knows? Reggie Wayne ate yardage like it was going out of fashion and John Carlson racked up a double dose of end-zone goodness. Green Bay looking like a sleeper D. Mikhail didn't have a lot to write home about. Philly Defense accounting for nearly half his total points! I doubt he starts LenDale White over Steven Jackson again any time soon... Locstah v TheeTFD Thee has been very active on the wire to help make up for his draft and almost pulled off the win. Galloway put up a goose egg and Fasano negative numbers. He will be well pleased with AP's monster game though. MJD will probably start over Turner this week. WR depth is still an issue. Locstah had solid if unspectacular perfomances all-round. Chris Johnson will have an easier time of it this week. Laimbeer v House Dressing Disappointing week from HD's squad. Olsen and Royal were week 1 flop's but should see better days. MBIII's perfomance was encouraging. Roddy White now has Gonzalez stealing TD's and yardage. Uh oh. Bench is deep though. He may be tempted to start Holmes this week. Hasselbeck shined for Bill. A nice value pick from Mr.Autodraft. Did not read the injury report regarding Steve Breaston but was lacking options at WR. A couple of waiver pickups will help here such as home-run hitter Devery Henderson and Patrick Crayton. webz v Smoooth Jake Delhomme's poor performance helped put a major dent in Steve Smith's production. Anthony Gonzalez forgot how to run and did himself a mischief - zero points. Encouraging signs from Keller and Moss will ease the pain. Smoooth also had solid performances all-round. Chad 85 could be looking at a bounce-back campaign. Very nice as a WR3. Addai is holding his own for now even if Smoooth thinks he overpaid. Saboteur Delhomme was nicely tucked away on Smoooth's bench earning negative 6 points. Was this a ploy? Smoooth walks away with the win. Week 2 Game of the week: Bill v Bill jnr It's on!
Good work, webz. The top 5 scores all won and the worst 5 scores all lost. That never happens. Usually, someone gets unlucky with a 130-125 loss or someone gets lucky with a 55-53 win.
- Webz with the blow by blow. But he still didn't answer my email about when can you grab free agents after the games. F'ing Laimbs sleazing DHenderson...probably at 0300 like a theaf in the night. - I'm still accepting packages for Turner or Jones-Drew.
If the player has been a free agent for 3 days or longer, than you can pick them up at any time. That's how I got DHenderson. I'll probably drop him after he puts up 15 yards this weekend.
Sorry, missed your email. You can't drop a player who has played in your starting lineup that day. I have a feeling that was the problem. You can swap someone from your bench at any time though. Devery Henderson was a FA so there was no waiting period.
