First order of business is trading down. There is a possibility with the Pats or Chargers who have multiple picks. If they can't in the 1st round, then they could in the 2nd round easily and pickup some extra 5-7 rd picks along with the 2nd.
Players to watch for: CB's in Jimmy Smith, but also Brandon Harris/Miami. OT's in Tyron Smith, but also Costanzo. Ayers is not proving to be all that from what Coaches are seeing. Instead ILB Martez Wilson is becoming a real possibility now to be taken in the 1st round.
    Think :
    CB's
    OT's
Then LB's to play Weak side. Strong side LB and 3rd WR can be gotten easily enough in the 3rd or 4th round.

Trading down ? There'll be no trading down. Trade up.
Ok, trade down for a Olinemen. Maybe to 17. Then take the extra pick tie it with the #45 and trade up to 35.

I'd be happy if they just drafted one starting CB to start the season. OLs would be a bonus...Besides...our China Doll will probably be out by game 4 anyways...

There's several really nasty Dlinemen that could fall to us. I could go for one.
But Dline is least of our needs.
DB, LB then Oline is need order.

You could also easily pick Brandon Harris there as well.
Lions only have 5 picks. Trading down is more the case here. Here's a possible scenario with the Pats: Lions trade #13&#44 for Pats #17&#28.

Btw, since the Lions are tied with 6 other clubs with the same record, each round they move up one, thus #44, not #45.:)

I think we get 6 picks, 1 compensatory.
I would think the Pats would need to throw in some more.

I'm figuring 2 starters out of this year's draft. That would be a good draft for us. OL will be a sure thing at our draft position. Just gotta hit the jackpot drafting the CB....

Remember Kalimba Edwards, 6'5" 265lb and couldn't pressure his grandma into making him a sandwich. Second rounder. Not again.

    Remember Matt Millen?

The moron that drafted Kalimba Edwards, Joey Harrington, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Roy Williams, Shaun Cody, Andre Goodman, Boss Bailey, Corey Redding, Artose Pinner, Teddy Lehman, Kevin Smith (CB), Stanley Wilson, Ernie Sims, Daniel Bullocks, Brian Calhoun, Ikaika Alama-Francis and Gerald Alexander?

    Not again.

    Have a nice day.

    :hoops:

P.S. I only included Millen's 1st-3rd round busts. I'm afraid PF.com might crash if I included all of Millen's busts from rounds 1-7.

For the most part these players didn't have the coaching leadership to put them over the top. Not their fault.:)

Actually, some of them are not busts.

Goodman is playing for Denver opposite Champ Bailey.

Redding is on the DLine with Ngata on the Ravens.

Cody is doing what he did with us on the Texans as a rotational DLine DTackle that will probably anchor Wade's 3/4 @ Nose.

Roy is what he is, streaky. Same with Dallas.

Mike Williams had an immaturity issue, bad pick, now he's figured it out.

Francis is on Miami as a TE.

Sims is what he has proven to be, below avg WLB.

Teddy Lehman was mishandled from the gitgo with his LisFranc injury.
    Still plays in the UFL.

Alexander, Bullocks and Bailey were injured and could not perform good enough anymore.

Smith,Jones and Pinner are RB's, usually they only last 3 years. In Smith's case, they changed the offense that took away from his Zone Block running experience and plus injury, suffered. He'll latch on somewhere else easily, Jones is playing in the UFL.

Jury is still out on Dizon, was on IR and was progressing to be a fine Special Teamer.

Drew Stanton? You know that one.

Keith Smith and Stanley Wilson just never developed at all.

However, this all looks like somewhat legitimate reasons to some degree, add them all up and unfortunately, its a bad run of bad picks that failed and it is the the GM's fault overall. Look through the 4-7 picks '01-'08 and there was the real problem. Bill Swancutt? Dee McCann? How about this one: AJ Davis in the 4th round and didn't even make the team!

    uggggh!:gun1:

Sure, a few of them are still in the league. [SARCASM]Yippee![/SARCASM]Not one of them still plays for the Lions.

They were all 1-3 round picks that didn't live up to their draft status. None of them have played up to the level of expected of where they were drafted. That spells bust to me.

Well, some of them actually do. But by and large, Millen's tenure was a failure. Many teams move players that don't fit anymore in the new scheme of the coaching staff. Look back at the drafts that Shanahan has had for the Bronco's, it's just as weak. What dooms this franchise is continual politics and infighting in the front office.
It seems that has now stopped.

I'm talking about the guys that I listed. None of them still play for the Lions.

It figures that just as we're starting to turn this around, the NFL goes on lockout. :frusty:

Still doesn't mean they are all busts. Just moved due to different coaching schemes.

I agree with that on the Lockout now.
    bummer.

The Detroit Lions are the only professional sports team in history that become bigger losers by becoming winners.
