Don't they need some upgrades in the secondary???....or was that the Wolverines who were thin in that area?
Thats the debate in most forums.... Detroit had a couple young corners that were hurt alot last year, and it can be argued that they were ok and probably as good as the corners that were available in the late 2nd or 3rd round. As bad as Matt was at drafting, I can't argue with the results since he's left.... So I for one am ok with how the draft has gone this year.
Both teams suffered with the opposing passing game. The Lions suffered due to injuries. The Wolverines suffered due to coaching...I'm beginning to have faith and trust in the current administration of the Lions...
Doug Hogue LB, Syracuse (Sr.) 6-foot-2, 226 pounds This guy was a highly-recruited RB that played OLB the last 2 years. He's probably not ready now, but could have a big upside since he's still learning how to play the position.
Many people don't know this but Syracuse is a top ten all time team for supplying talent to the NFL....
With the 209th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions select.... Johnny Culbreath OT / South Carolina State
This guy gets penalized a lot for going into "Beast" mode... This guy is a reach...but for a low pick...he's worth the gamble...
This was Culbreath talking a couple days ago when he was hoping to get drafted... Seems like a solid gamble at the end of the draft. Gotta go with the athlete with room to improve. His attitude off the filed is good and on the field is more aggressive.
It's hard to judge this draft right now. If we end up getting a quality CB (Asomugha!) and OLB in free agency, then it will be much easier to justify going DT with our first pick. As with every draft, it will be interesting to see how our picks pan out vs. some of the guys we had an opportunity to draft.
Only 2-3 teams gots A's for their draft. Culbreath got suspended once for a teammate altercation. Like me guess, it was a LB he repeatedly blew up the field.
Exactly. The Lions probably did as good or better than any team at drafting value. The biggest problem with their draft is they didn't address any of their main weaknesses. If they shore that up in free agency or trades, then this will be considered an exceptional draft.
