At ESPN Insider, they argued that you can't truly rank a team's draft until they have played for 3 years, so they evaluated each team's draft strategy. The top 4 were:

    1. Seattle
    2. San Francisco
    3. Baltimore
    4. Detroit

Here is what they said about Detroit:

Detroit's pre-draft maneuvering was reminiscent of Bill Belichick's early days in New England. The Lions got a handful of veteran additions via trade, then used their first three picks to bring in potential difference-makers in DT Ndamukong Suh, RB Jahvid Best and CB Amari Spievey.

The Lions will finish a respectable (as that can be) 5-11. I believe the 'quality' of the losses will be better than we've seen in 6 years. The problems we have now are at LB and CB. Grades:

    QB: B-
    RB: C
    WR/TE: B-
    OL: D
    DL: B
    LB: C-
    S- B-
    CB- D
    Kicking/Returns- A

we still have a long way to go.

Mel Kiper gave both the Lions and the Eagles a B+:

    Philadelphia Eagles
Summary: The Eagles were positioned well to take advantage of a deep draft, and they did, piling up seven productive picks between the third and fifth rounds. But Philly started well too. In Brandon Graham they have a potential Rookie of the Year on defense. They filled a need at safety with Nate Allen, and I like Trevard Lindley in the fourth. He has second-round ability. Ricky Sapp may be a tweener, but getting a guy who can get to the quarterback like he can in the fifth round is good value. He could be a solid situational pass-rusher early in his career. Riley Cooper is quicker than many people think to go with above-average size.Draft grade: B+

    [IMG] Detroit Lions
Summary: You can't dock Detroit just because it had the biggest no-brainer pick in the whole draft. Ndamukong Suh, combined with Detroit's offseason additions to the line, makes that a position of strength for Detroit. It's hard to fathom that Detroit wouldn't be markedly improved on defense in 2010. Jahvid Best is a game-changer, and should help Matthew Stafford. He's also the kind of player who doesn't need a huge hole to hit a home run for that offense. Amari Spievey is a nice addition in a secondary that needs help, and Jason Fox can help them. I like Detroit's draft at least for the fact that you can see impact soon for a team that needs it.
    Draft grade: B+

his grades are hard to follow, i disagree with most of them.. and he goes way off what most draft experts have been saying the last 24 hours.

one quick example he gave the steelers a B- while most experts were scratching there heads at how many linebackers they kept taking as the draft went on.

I'm figuring that an 8-8 team would Average all C grades.
A 13-3 team would be mostly A-B grades.
A 3-13 team would mostly be D-F grades.

    QB: D+
    RB: D+
    WR/TE: C
    OL: F
    DL: C+
    LB: D
    S: D+
    CB: D
    Special Teams: C

We have a really long way to go.

    Look for a 3-13 Team...

Time will tell, but I think Stafford will be very good this year.

With Smith and Best, the RB deserves much better than D+.

With Johnson, Burleson, Johnson, Scheffler, etc., the WR/TE should actually be better than most teams.

IF the "F" for the Offensive Line is accurate, he won't have the chance. :(

Nemo's predictions are always wrong. :pound:

Actually, Backus and Raiola are okay. The new guy, Sims from Seattle, will be decent at left guard. The big guy they just drafted from Miami will add some depth. Perhaps they will pick up one more free agent lineman.

I agree. Because Backus and Raiola have been here the longest, they take the brunt of the blame, but I don't think it's all justified. I'd say the biggest problems have been the lack of consistency from the other 3 line positions - LG, RG and RT.

As much as everyone loves to rip into our o-line, they're really not that bad. They're by no means good, but I don't think they're an F, especially with the recent upgrades. I'd give them a C.

Lions' special teams were absolutely horrid last year. Even Hanson wasn't his best. They have made some improvements, but they are a long way from earning an "A".

You mean 2010, right? That's what I'm saying. I doubt the Lions could improve THAT much (from F to A) in one year.

Irregardless, your grades were much better than Nemos.

    If I was grading avatars:

    HQ: A
    Nemo: F
