okies so with some fudge room i'll be safe by 9. i'll be there ready to draft an all time group of losers :P
The secret to auction, is that if you don't blow your budget early, you get to clean up late. Avoid bidding wars, and you can get a lot of decent players.
Rascoe (or anyone else who has experience with this), Are we supposed to try to mess over the next guy by making him bid high or is the object to mind your own business and just try to get the guys you want? I guess you could help yourself by making other people spend on other guys so you CAN get the guys you want? How does it typically work around HERE? Again, I will be there for sure if it lets me in. If not, what is a good strategy to make sure I get the guys I want? How high should I set my pre-draft bid settings to? Thanks in advance...
Anyone you don't want, set the lowest possible bid. Anyone you do want, make the bid a couple $ over the default for that player. Anyone you really want, decide how much you want to pay for them. When we did it at ESPN for Keeper league, the draft order was used to nominate who we would be bidding on. So the first "pick" could nominate anyone in the league to start the bidding @ $1. They could nominate the best player or worst player. My take on this, is that it is better to nominate guys you don't think will cause a bidding war early so you have a decent chance to grab them. Some folks will get caught up in the casino mentality and bid too high, and some folks will make bogus bids to get other people to pay too much. The person who stays calm and cool will be bidding at the end when everyone else is tapped out, and basically grabbing every great player remaining on the board for a buck or two. It's sort of like a mini game. We need to find and post some addresses on strategy and mock drafts. This is a lot of fun, and it looks like almost everyone will be there. It would be awesome if we could have full attendance, it will go much faster.
It sounds too easy. You're not sandbagging to convince people to back off bidding on the superstars so that you can grab them, are you?
Bumping this as a reminder, the draft is this weekend. I will be PMing all of you guys in the next day or so, and maybe emailing as well. I'd like to shoot for 100% attendance, if you do not realistically think you can make it, please spend some time and setup your pre-draft.
I thought the secret to an auction draft was blowing your wad on PUjols and then filling the rest of your team with $1 scabs...........I don't know, I could be wrong, it's happened before.
Apparently Bill Jr. can't make it Sunday. Something about having to do chores and homework. Bill Sr., you sir are a very cunning competitor. ;)
I'm sure Bill had the child's best interest at heart. I am scared to start my car when I leave work tonight. I have a feeling when I turn the key in the ignition...BOOOOOOOM!!!!
I was just kidding. He already told me he is going to hide the internet router until he arrives at the draft to keep you from getting ahead of him.
I doubt I will make it. I'm having the same problem as last time. I did the test. It says "connecting to server" and it shows a little spinning thing but it never connects. Last time it let me in at the last second when the draft began. I have no idea why.
