If every expensive contract was not for the full 5 years then it would not be so bad. Some of these guys would not have taken shorter contracts?
This is a good article on some of the details. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7285446/billy-hunter-tells-players-get-512-percent-bri-2011-12 One interesting item is there will be a 2 year window before the sign and trade restrictions kick in. One more "super team" can form. I doubt there will be a lot of collusion, if any, as with the Heat.
It will get done. We know there had to be a majority of Owners for it to get this far. The Players have to drop the law suites and reform the union before they can vote on it. If they do not pass it they will lose all leverage.
It just seems like there are a lot of details that have to be ironed out to go from what is essentially a handshake agreement to a real deal.
No team will have to play more than 3 back-to-back-to-backs. Key dates: Dec. 9: Training camps open Dec. 9: Free agency begins Dec. 25: Regular season begins Teams will play 66 games, 48 of which are conference games, 18 are non-conference. Teams will not visit every city.
I don't see how not giving all the fans a chance to see Stuckey and Austin Daye play is a good way to renew interest in the L. I hope the new schedule still allows the Pistons to play the Pacers 3 times in their first 5 games. Maybe they could have their own triple-header on Christmas?
The real NBA fans will book their travel plans around visiting a remote city to watch the Super Collider in action.
What the top free agents (Nene, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol, Oden, Jamal Crawford) are worth today.... http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/5-on-5-free-agents-111128/what-top-nba-free-agents-really-worth
I like Nene a lot as a player, but I'm surprised to see his name and the words "max contract" in the same sentence. Yes, you gotta pay for a decent big man, but a max contract? Jamal Crawford is way overpriced IMO. Plus, it's his last contract and he's 31. I can see Stuckey being worth that much, but not Crawford.
We have that new rookie Brandon Knight who is supposed to be a point. Plus Bynum and Rip/BG. Can't trade them all, I don't know where Stuck would play.
Man, I totally forgot we drafted Brandon Knight. So, the guards we have: Knight, Stuckey, Bynum, Rip, Gordon and White. That's 6 assuming TMac won't come back and Daye actually being a SF. Too bad the amnesty clause is for a single player and not a particular position. I'd throw all that fish other than Knight back in the pond.
None of the marquee free agents will sign until Stuckey does. Once Super Collider signs a deal, the other big names will fall into place like dominos...
This page has a list of a lot of the "B-List" items in the new CBA (drug testing, NBDL changes, discipline, trades, salaries, etc.). http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7329408/new-items-added-nba-collective-bargaining-agreement
Max, according to the DetNews you are correct about the Pistons being a lux tax team the year they won the title. Nice job. From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20111212/SPORTS0102/112120311/Busy-reshaping-roster--Pistons-now-must-decide-fate-of-Rodney-Stuckey#ixzz1gL81BjNv
