Here's a couple links for you NFL dudes. I'm conflicted. I have a severe dislike for the Ford family because of what they've put us through. ...but it seems like the Lions are actually being run in an effective manner lately. To top it all off, they have some VERY likable players on this team that make it hard to not root for them. Lions say their player-led workouts are NFL's best - NFL - SI.com Detroit Lions primed to contend in NFC North in 2011 NFL season - Kerry J. Byrne - SI.com
I said that I was concerned about this affecting the Lions in particular several months ago: Lockout comes at terrible time for Lions - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
Football Fans Want To See The Lions On Hard Knocks - Pride Of Detroit The ESPN Sportsnation indicates the Lions are the team everyone wants to see on the HBO Hardknocks series, but I heard the Lions brass don't want to particpate?? ESPN.com Poll Results by State
The 16,000 people who voted have nominated us as the next "America's Team"... I say we do this, only if the players remain motivated for the season, and it's not just another "Another One Bites The Dust" fiasco..........
This team is shaping up to have great character and cohesion. Having cameras there would potentially ruin that.
Detroit Lions - NFL | Jim Schwartz's winner for D-line nickname is Silver Crush | The Detroit News I like this name...as I loved the original "Silver Rush" Doug English...Al "Bubba" Baker...Dave Pureifory...William Gay 23 sacks...in one season...by Al "Bubba" Baker.... Also Remember the "Fearsome Foursome" The FIRST nickname for a Defensive line... Sam Williams...Roger Brown...Alex Karras...Darris McCord These guys once sacked Bart Starr 15 times in one game...
Re: 2011 Lions ... here kitty, kitty Why the Lions will contend in 2011 Kerry J. Byrne - SI.com "The Detroit Lions have long been a pigskin piñata. Who didn't love taking swings at their soft, defeat-filled underbelly after every stupid move they made? Their long-term lack of success made it easy. Some Detroit fans reveled in the treatment, hoping the humiliation would someday cause the Lions to turn over a new leaf. Well, consider that leaf turned ... and not just because Detroit landed a stellar draft class last month. First, you need to know that Jim Schwartz's Lions turned a huge statistical corner during the 2010 season ... and they did it in spectacular fashion, too. And, yes, they may have turned another corner at the end of April 2011, with what appears to be a small but smart, talent-filled draft class that could make the Lions -- hold your breath here folks -- a contender in the top heavy NFC North in 2011." The word "Blitz"...employed in the word SilverBlitz refers to others besides the Defensive line arriving to sack the QB, through various strategies. This name Silver Crush was derived to honor our stellar line and not our mediocre LBs and DBs...
Orange Crush was already taken. I told JS not to be afraid to take another 1st rnd monster for our Dline next year.
OK. Forget that we aren't going to have a season for sure. Forget history. Forget curses. Forget that the Lions aren't even my team. Forget that I hate to revive a TFD thread. Listen, these Lions are going to be really good. I predicted 9-7, but only because that schedule is so rough and I couldn't help but break my own rule and let their past seep into my mind. They are certainly capable of doing better. The majority of fans, "experts", insiders, etc. outside of Detroit are saying the Lions are going to be a force to contend with (not for their fans as before, but for other teams). I understand the skepticism in Lions fans. Now, they do need Stafford...but most teams need their quarterback to stay healthy. I shudder to think of the Eagles without Vick. The Packers suck without Rogers. Speaking of which, the Packers aren't that great. They are good. They also got lucky. Had the Lions NOT beat Tampa we the Packers would have missed the playoffs and we would have had a different [STRIKE]Eagles[/STRIKE] champion. They almost lost in the first round and would have if Vick's last 17 yard pass were a couple inches higher. The Lions can beat these guys out for the division title. Plus if Suh takes out Rogers...Just kidding. That defensive line is downright scary. Man, I hope the Eagles can protect Vick against it in the NFC finals. OK...MAYBE wishful thinking. But who else? Atlanta? The Division. The Bears played a couple of good games last year but they were lucky too. They shouldn't have (didn't) beat the Lions and that first game eventually moved them up in the seedings. The Vikings downright stink. The Packers will lose their drive. 1. Lions 2. Bears or Packers 3. See above 4. Vikings
1. PACKERS 12-4 2. DA BEARS 10-6 3. Vikings 7-9 4. Lions 6-10 Too many what if's for us to be realistically expecting anything better... Rodgers will be dominant for the Pack this season... Stafford will start 9 games this season...
Oh, I almost always want them to do well, check to see how their games are going and follow them a little bit. I'm definitely a fan. They are my second favorite team. I just don't let my emotions get all wrapped up in them. Those days are looooong gone. They've come a long way. People around here don't seem to realize how good they are. The eminem piece you posted was great. Here it is for those who may have missed it when nemo posted it a few months ago. YouTube - Ready for 2011 Detroit Lions‏ [STRIKE]GO EAGLES! [/STRIKE] I mean, uhmm, Go Lions!
It's entirely possible that the Lions go 12-4 this season. We're just not that deep of a team yet. I fully expect injuries to slow down our growth this season. That will make our future brighter though as many backups prove their value...We also haven't tested the player leadership of this bunch yet.
