Bama 41 Mich 14 Embarrassing since when is Shoelace a pocket passer vs Bama ? since when does Laces have only 2 carries while losing 21-0 ? Hoke and OC need brain checked ! Embarrassing
I wasn't surprised by the 41-14 outcome. I expected Bama by about 21 points. I'm surprised at how many points the game produced - on both sides. It was like an NFL team vs. a Pop Warner team. Just goes to show you the huge chasm between SEC football and Big 10 football. No Big 10 team can hang with Alabama or LSU. Ohio State probably will be able to in a few seasons. MSU probably could have hung with Bama for the first half, but that would have been it. You can't say UM wasn't ready for this game. They are just not in the same class. I hate that Missouri, my alma mater, is now a member of the SEC. They are going to get mobbed. Big 10 didn't want Mizzou. I suspect the academics aren't strong enough there. Higher-quality academic schools in the Big 10 vs. the SEC. Maybe Big 10 can outthink 'em.
Beer do the math next time. Maybe TaS can blow some smoke at you. That's a serious equation Tate offered !
I didn't say that... My point was that I believe Michigan is very much overrated because you can't really UNDER RATE a team if you have them at #2...and that #2 team blew out the #8 team. Now stop confusing me and making me recheck my posts AND my math, you evil man!
I think the DRob pass only game plan was actually the right strategy. The only way their running game would have opened up would have been if they could have done immediate damage through the air. Bama's D is just really solid. The game would have been much closer without the interceptions of course, but that's the gamble you take when you're trying to beat a superior team.
TaS, disagree, 3 tites and DRob and they are still in the game. This game was pretty much over after the 1st Q. Michs' D wasn't going to hold them but the game wouldn't be over at halft time.
The running game was getting stuffed. They ran it 29 times for 69 yards (2.4 yards per attempt). Denard got more than a third of Michigan's carries and averaged 2.7 yards. They passed it 27 times for 200 yards (7.4 per attempt, 18.2 per completion). Robinson: “There were just not opportunities on the field."
Most of the 200 passing yards came on two plays...a 71 yard pass that came up short of the end zone near the first half and then the 44 yard TD to Gardner in the 4th. I know the game plan for Saban was to stop Robinson on the ground, the Wolverines fell right into it by not running "Shoelaces" at all and the Tide stopped all of the other Wolverine runners....I am thinking if D-Rob had started calling his own number and running that second and third series, instead of trying to throw it to match the first Tides first two Tide TD.s the Wolverines could have stayed in it.....for awhile anyway.....
By the way, Michigan and Michigan State were the only two teams....other than their opponents of course, to schedule a top ten opponent the first week. Michigan and Boise State were the only two losers as 22 of the top 25 won their opening games (with # 16 Virginia Tech playing on Monday night vs Georgia Tech) Just think if the Spartans had not come back and won that game vs Boise??? Mich and MSU could have possibly been the only losers in the top 25......Thanks Sparty!!
The run game wouldn't have thrown 2 picks. One pick being straight up robbery, where our receiver was pushed out of bounds.
For whatever reasons these two teams scheduled these games (money, exposure, rankings, validation, etc.) you've got to respect them for scheduling these tough openers. But if you think they were stupid or crazy for doing so, when they could have been playing the NorthWest Wyoming State Honey Badgers, then you've got to at least admire their guts to do so.
no doubt Tate, now if Shere Khan could've scored last week you wouldn't be in an equal state of patheticness.
Actually, Hoke had suspended them indefinitely but said a week and a half ago that Toussaint would play against Bama. He took so much heat for that that he was forced to change his mind last minute.
Thee, if necessary, I would have gladly exchanged every single fantasy baseball category I did win, could have won, or could still possibly win for the super satisfying win that Michigan State earned against Boise State a couple of days ago!!! Would you do the same with your team if you could go back in time and have Michigan put a whooping on Alabama? We got what we got and it tis what it tis.
Although you are changing the physics of the equation to dig your way out of this mess, maybe, UoM is more important than the "wwwhhhiff".
