I'm leery. I like Drummond - he seems like a nice kid, but he does have a LONG way to go. Mark my words - he won't start his first couple years. That being said, if you need a superstar to win, he's the one big that could be a superstar. Let's hope the Pistons get him to where he needs to be.
I don't think Drummond will take years to get to a point where he is impactful. Look at someone like Roy Hibbert. Physically blessed, but far from the ethereal talent of someone like Gasol, Love etc. What we don't need is JJ trying to bang against guys like Howard or Bynum. We don't really need Maxiell doing his best Chuck "Tiny" Hayes "I'm Small but I can Ball" impression. We need impact. Drummond can shoot, you can't leave him open all the time. He is explosive. He can run the floor. I honestly think he will make people pay if they don't respect his game (as a rookie!). Is he going to put up 20/20's in his first year? No. But the real question is, do we actually need him to? If we can get an efficient 20/10 from Moose, 15-20 from Stuckey, 15 from BK and some assists, as well as 15 from Tay, how many points does this guy actually need to score? If he can defend, I am 100% sold that we got the steal of this years draft.
I like this pick here because they didn't reach for him. This (or any sort of assistant coach) would be great. I do not have much faith in the Pistons pulling this off though.
Anyone know this guys? Middleton? English? Middleton is another SF, right? .. come on we have plenty of them!
I totally agree. He doesn't need to carry the entire organization a la Lebron. He can come in off the bench at the beginning and grab rebounds, get lost on D and come across weak side and erase shot attempts when Greg gets beat. On offense he just has to move without the ball and dunk. he can mature into a solid player of the years to get us over the hump but right now he CAN contribute. we suck that much.
I can honestly say that when both GS and Toronto passed on Drummond my heart skipped a beat. It really is nice to sit here and hope he comes a legit stud - if he doesn't, we pistons fans are pretty darn resilient!
Am I alone in thinking that if Monroe struggled defensively at the 5 then he's going to have even more problems covering 4's?
For a top 10 pick, on a losing team...(like the Pistons) Drummond has to be starting by mid season or at least getting 15-20 mins per game. After all both Monroe and Knight learned on the job and were pleasant surprises midway through the season. However with 29% shooting from the FT line ..he must never be in a close game in the last five minutes of a game. How bout those Wildcats?? Six players selected tonight....and Kentucky will be in the top 10 rankings again next season....
Remember............the optimist sees the doughnut.....the pessimist sees the hole......... Remember............those who throw dirt are only losing ground.................. Remember............love is grand, Stuckey's contract is 25,000 grand !!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully.................the Pistons bring more to the table than just dinner in 2012...............
