Yeah, but imagine how confusing it would be for the other team. Glass is half full. With what though?

Granger would seriously shore up our outside shooting, which is important. But think about it this way, every other team bar 2 or 3 need it too. Granger will get traded and we don't have anything that Indiana really wants. That combined with his $13 odd million a year in salary makes it a so-so move either way. $7m and 20mpg would get a thumbs up from me.

Oh my god, I thought John Wall was bad. I mean, at least PGeorge is a solid 2 way defender, but to put it in perspective, that's Derrick Rose money if he gets another all-nba selection (which will happen, by the way).

P-George's best days are ahead of him.
...much rather have him than Derrick Rose.

Stuckey makes 9 mil per year.
George is worth twice as much as Rodney.
    ...jus sayin.

Isn't Granger another Rudy Gay? I was under the impression he was a volume shooter.

I don't want Granny Danger unless he's dirt cheap.

Derrick Rose makes a ton of money for a guy who doesn't really play.

Derrick Rose is arguably a top 3 player when he's healthy - Paul George have a hard time to crack the top 15. I know he got really high potential, and that's probably what made him so expensive. And to be fair, If DRose recovered well from his injury he will have tons of potential aswell. He's only 24 years young.

A guy who won't lace 'em up for his team in the playoffs ain't worth max bread.
Rose has succeeded in showing us all what the opposite of Zeke Thomas looks like.

It wasn't his choice. The team wouldn't let him back. Dude busted his butt in recovery.

But it still affects us. Bad news this contract. Cousins and Monroe have long been compared since before they were drafted. Monroe's agent now has a very useful weapon to use in bargaining. Especially if the Pistons are much better than the Kings this season and Monroe's production is still there. Question is, would any of you like to pay Greg 15.5M per year because that's what we are looking at.

IMO: $15.5 mil over 4 years is about 3 mil per year too high or 1 year too long.

So you're saying that it sounds like a done deal for Dumars?

Joe will let the market determine Monroe's value and then he'll make the right decision based on that information.
Joe will bid against himself and overpay by about 40%.

I was thinking that if we end up using Cousins as a measuring stick, we'll end up having to commit $45M to our front line of Smith/Moose/Drummond in a few years. Then I looked at the salary structure. Drummond is up for extension the same year that Smith's contract's last year. Drummond will be hitting his peak as Smith turns 30 and looking for his last contract. It *might* be possible then to offer Drummond his first big contract while retaining Smith for a more reasonable one while paying lux tax for just one year. So, here's a look at our future salary structure and the current core of presumed key players (Jennings, Smith, Moose, Drummond):

    2014/15 Season
    • Next season we'll need to reup Moose to prevent him from becoming a FA. He would be making $5.5M if we make him a qualifying offer. Both CV and Stuckey's contracts are coming off the books freeing up $17M. So, in theory, next year we can give Moose a Cousins-level contract and still have about $7.5-8M to play with.
    2015/16 Season
    • No big changes to key players.
    • This is the year where JJ, Bynum, Billups, Gigi, Kyle Singler, Jorts and Mitchell will be resigned or replaced. This is the year where Dumars has to be extremely careful. Any moves he makes will either give him flexibility or handicap when handling the next two seasons. This is the year of non-splashy acquisitions which will ultimately determine if we'll be able to keep Drummond in Detroit.
    2016/17 Season
    • This is the year we need to pay up Drummond to prevent him from becoming a FA.
    • This is also the year where Jennings' contract expires. So we have options. We can reup Drummond and let Jennings walk. If he's doing great, we can try to retain both. It all depends on what other contract we need to deal with.
    • Josh Smith is an expiring contract. If he's not working out, it could be a great trade chip at the time.
    • This is a year we're likely going to venture into lux-tax territory.
    2017/18 Season
    • Josh Smith is up. Depending on how it goes, we may want to keep him here for a smaller contract.

Here's the source for my musings.

I got to see Monroe play this year before I can think about paying him. I'm not sold on him as a PF and maxing out a guy who misses so many lay-ups and plays no D doesn't seem right.

Doesn't Noah only make $10.5-$11 million per?
