This team cannot afford to lose Monroe at this point. He is our only reliable scorer.

If they traded Monroe and moved Smith to the 4, Smith would be pushed down inside and become way more effective on both offense and defense. Get a reliable perimeter scorer in return - even if they don't get equal "value" in exchange - and they make their team more balanced and significantly better.

Hopefully they get a GM here this offseason that knows how to spend cap space properly.

The difference between Moose and Smith is Moose won't attempt any shots that's outside of his comfort zone, no matter how wide open he may be. Smith, on the other hand, hasn't seen a shot attempt he didn't like.

To be honest, I'd rather have Moose on the team than Smith.

problem is that about 99% of the League's teams seem to be thinking the same way...

Smith is the better all around player. Moose will not shoot from outside 5 feet. That's a real bad thing when the other guy on the floor is Andre "I don't bother dribbling or shooting because I can windmill a medicine ball from 10 feet away" Drummond.

Monroe nets us better value. Pull the trigger on Waiters.

I was messing around with the trade machine...

    I came up with this.

New York recieves - Monroe + Josh Smith + Stuckey
Detroit recieves - Stoudemire + Iman Shumpert + Cole Aldrich + some pick

It works in the ESPN machine.

    What do you think?

You don't trade a big for a small unless the small is absolutely amazing.

    Dion Waiters is not amazing.

If Joe is going to trade Monroe it will be for another big man who has an expiring contract.

You do when you have no outside shooting and no perimeter defense and the worst starting backcourt in the league.

    That's a shame.
Moose has shown lack of motor this year IMO.
And Smith's game is just much more versatile and he's more athletic.
Moose isn't going to get much better. He'll be a tricky scorer close to the basket who is a decent passer, but can't defend. I'd rather have Udonis Haslem in his prime, honestly.

Just read that Jimmer can be had for a 2nd. This needs to happen. If the Pistons aren't going to play defense anyway, at least get a guy that can help them out offensively. Seriously, are they going to get a better player with a second-rounder?

Cant believe Dumars is standing pat. At least we will not have to worry about Smith playing out of position after Monroe bolts over the summer.
