Gores is the one telling them to win now and quick fix their way to prosperity instead of building a team.

They didn't sign Smith because he filled a need. It's scatterbrained.

Not sure I buy that Gores sense of urgency is why they are making dumb moves.

The Smith signing was bad because there was no chemistry. If Josh puts up his usual numbers next year all will be forgiven.

I know he was on the slightly lower end, but didn't Smith put up his usual numbers last year?

So Gores is Gores. Just some good luck and happenstance that things rolled his way. Doesn't make him a genius, or perceptive, or intelligent. The last few years have proven this point.

JD was breathing his historic myth on fumes for a least the past five years. Everyone (if only intuitively) on this board, at one-time-or-another, were left with eventually scratching about their hair line, for some sort of invisible head lice.

Fortunately, for Gores, the personalized comments from the blogs started to make fun of him. That emperor with the impeccable clothes, who could own a multitude of dry-cleaning facilities (Breaking Bad excluded), was about to discover that his final product stunk like a one month old dish-rag in 100% daily humidity. So what does he do? He went back to the street. Where individual empires are built. Reached out to talent that has history of scars. Give a little toward something that was already rotten in Denmark and where bleach is nothing more than a sterile (ling) commercial line item.

Now...we must give him credit. He went out and turned the administrative junkers of the NBA on it's head: by signing SVG. Boom! Boom! Boom! The Lakers need more time. Phil Jackson needs more time. Cleveland needs more time. The Jazz need more time and the Timberwolves having nothing but time. And soon, the Thunder will be looking at time.

Owners are beginning to understanding the spheres of the dancers:
There was once a company of six dancers who were part of a circus in the local village. Five of the dancers could leap about three feet. The villagers followed these five closely, knowing jus how high each could jump. They would applaud enthusiastically at the dancer who would leap just a few inches higher than the others.
The sixth dancer could leap almost six feet. The villagers ignored him, wishing to reward the others in his company. When asked why he continued to leap so much higher than the others, while being unappreciated, he replied simply: "Because the other dancers understand".

Didn't Gores buy the Pistons and the Palace for under $350 million?

How much has he made already? He's already in the Mr D zone like he bought the thing for $7 million 30 years ago.

Pistons are 5th in the NBA profit wise over the last 5 seasons.
Their average annual profit margin during that time was 27 million per season.
Profits have been lower the last 2 seasons due to poor attendance (bottom 3 in the NBA)

Those profits are actually more than the team earned during the 6 consecutive conference finals seasons,
which was a still respectable 20 million per season...

I kinda get the feeling that if Ilitch's group would have bought the team rather than Tommy Bahama, the Pistons would be a year or two ahead of where they are now.
Illitch has always been in it for the fans and the city.
Gores seems like he's in it for the money.

...at least that's the way it looks to me.

I don't understand this widespread dislike of Gores.

Gotta blame someone since we're all so far away from what is actually happening and why.

I sort of dislike him from some of the mismanagement that's gone on and/or his or Platinum Equity's absentee status around the team.

And Dumars is no longer with us.

In all honesty, we would be a long way ahead if it wasn't for Karen Davidson taking ages to sell the team (that her husband wanted to keep in the family).

It's not that I dislike him. ...I don't even know the guy.
He just seems like a cheese ball "hey everyone, look at me - I own a NBA team" type of dude.

So it might be good to keep Stuckey as scapegoat. Forget about it, we already have Singler.

He kind of reminds me of the guy at BDL:s work who walks around like JR Smith in chicken dance mode.

I think later in that game all of those guys did stand up and do the chicken dance.

He looks like he should have a beer in his hand, but he doesn't. Kinda like Garfield minus Garfield.
