As a consultant in pricing I'm used to working with data-handling, number crunching and analytics of large data sets. And while they are in the process of throwing millions after everything that moves they should consider this.

Speaking of Meeks and Morrow.... Meeks is a risky player, there is still potential - SVG took calculated risk. Morrow is what he is - cheaper and you know what you can and can't get from him.

I understand the logic- if "we" suck "we" may be as well cheapskates. Thats the guranteed lottery team logic. Suits for some owners but not for Gores - he is willing to take risks - hence Meeks not Morrow.

Meeks is the better player, but Morrows dead-eye shooting would've been fun to have. I would rather have Meeks for his transition game aswell as high-effort defense tho. Meeks have had a TS% above 60% twice in his career, something Morrow have never done.

For the record, I liked the Meeks signing and was thrilled that SVG went out and got the guy he wanted. to me, even if a slight overpay, I rather have a GM be proactive then idle. Plus, he is not over valuing his own FA as evident by getting guys to compete with incumbents and no max deal for Monroe.

My previous post about Freddette etc. was only to illustrate how the market seemed to downgrade as players I expected to get better deals did not. Not to say these later FAs are great players, but for most I thought they deserved more then the minimum - especially after the first wave of contracts were published. someone snidely said these guys suck - and I agree - but after Ben Gordon got 9 million, the max to Heyward / Parsons / Bosh, the crazy high contracts to Swaggy-P and jordan Hill etc. I thought that these other guys would also get better contracts.

Thus, in writing I like the Meeks signing, but wanted to make an observation on how the market changed and how it woud have been cool to have a roster spot open to maybe get in on the action and try out a guy on a minimum deal.

    Have a nice day :)

What if no team offers Monroe a contract and he signs the 5.5 million with the pistons:

“One thing you worry about in those situations is the bitterness,” one general manager told Sporting News. “Players are people, too, and they can be fragile. I think that if you force a player like Bledsoe or Monroe to take a qualifying offer, they’re both sensitive enough that you could have a problem on your hands going forward. They’ve both been told they’re max players. What are you going to get if they don’t get paid what they’re worth?”

For Monroe and Bledsoe, restricted free-agent blues continues - NBA - Sporting News

I think the problem is more like they believe they are max players. I don't recall reading a single article about either guy where someone else thought that they deserve a max deal. I would think Bledsoe especially would be very anxious to sign this year considering his injury history. He is risking a lot if he only signs the QO and hurts himself again.

Surprised they went with 3 years. SVG must be pretty impressed with him and also pretty adamant he is going to sit this season out.

They committed to him, it's probably part of keeping him quiet and patient as he finishes rehab.
