WATCH: Tom Izzo dresses up as a member of KISS for Midnight Madness - CBSSports.com
Gotta love Izzo And Suzy Merchant
A little disturbing. I could see Darth all done up KISS style.
Izzo fared much better than Tubby Smith this year.
Even more disturbing...I could see Tater done up Beyonce style
Great piece on Izzo
And another one... Izzo gets blunt with Huskies at Saturday meeting
You rarely see great college games in mid-November, but there is an excellent double-header on tap tonight: Michigan State (#19) vs. Duke (#4) in the Champions Classic in Indianapolis at 7pm EST on ESPN. Immediately following, you've got Kansas (#5) vs. Kentucky (#1) around 9pm EST on ESPN. Kentucky will be interesting to watch as Calipari is implementing a platoon system with two separate 5-man units.
Lourawls "Tum Tum" Naim Jr looks decent so far. I think he'll get better-and-better with more PT. Trice got jobbed for a blocking foul on what looked like good position IMO. 40-33 Duke at the half with Dawson and Valentine getting in early foul trouble. Will be interesting to see Izzo's adjustments in the 2nd
We don't have the horses to keep up with these elite teams right now. If the Spartans get healthy, give Izzo a few months to get these guys clicking for when it really counts.
State just dominated M in the OT period. M got a goose egg in the OT. Up until then, it was a gripping game.
Great game. It's hard to believe a Michigan team that plays a couple of walk-ons an without its two best players could compete with MSU. But once again they hung in there in the Breslin Center. Should be an interesting rematch in AA. When Izzo gets about 2 inches in front of Costello and starts yelling and spitting at him....is that called motivation? Costello, the local guy seemed to play better after that. He had a couple of nice blocks.
It was a fun game to watch. UM is pretty beat up but hung tough until the OT. Costello looked really good. Valentine too, for the most part. Izzo has over-active saliva glands. Spartans need to make progress before the tourney or they may be an 8th or 9th seed. Right now, I'd consider it a great season if they make it to the Sweet 16.
State just to Illinois in East Lansing 59-54. Missed free throws are killing them as they went 7 for 18. MSU's streak of 17 consecutive NCAA tourneys looks in jeopardy
Could be the first time in a while if neither the Spartans nor the Wolverines make the big dance. Still MSU will probably get in on rep alone as long as the losses don't top 13...unless say they lose their last five games including a one and done in the B10 tourney.
State entered today's game #321 of 345 Division 1 schools in FT% and will probably fall lower after this weekend. Missed FTs have been much to blame for many losses. Sort of hard to comprehend how a program of MSU's stature could be that bad at something so fundamental.
Huge win (59-56) over OSU today on a late 3 by Denzel Valentine. Gives State a little breathing room heading to tourney selection time.
4 of 7 from the line for MSU. Maybe that's the key: Don't get to the FT line. OSU shot worse from the stripe (5 of 13). Always nice to get a win over that school down south.
MSU in AA tonight (9pm EST ESPN) to take on the Wolverines. Current line is State -4 but UM always plays us tough at Crisler where they've won the last 4 meetings.
Mike Tirico (lives in Ann Arbor) and Dan Dakich (his kid is on UM's team) will be doing the broadcast. This should be interesting. Dakich is a big-time homer and can't stand MSU.
