Personally, I think a guy like Afflalo is more ready to step in and play. He fits the role that Flip will give him (spot up guy) much better than than his predecessors. All he has to do is knock down open shots and play D. Delfino's dribbling and slashing strengths were always wasted on this team when all Flip wants is a guy who can shoot it without having to get into a rhythm. If Afflalo proves he can defend Small Forwards and knock down shots, he will have success here.

Stuckey will probably take longer. Being a PG/SG, it will take him longer to get used to the NBA (expect some ugly TOs early on), and I'm not sure Flip will "give him the keys" to the bench like he would for a vet (Lindsey). If Flip makes him play off-the-ball, it will be a disaster. If Flip gets him the ball going of screens, he should be exactly what we need.

The more I see/read of him and think about it the more I like the pick. He doesn't have to be a scoring machine he just has to be solid and knock down the open J, and maybe get a little hot every few games off the pine.

It's the 'duplication' with the picks that T'ed me off the most.

It's the "duplication" that makes the most sense. Remember we DRAFTED 3 guards, we didn't SIGN 3 FA guards where you already know what they can do in the LEAGUE.

Guys that you draft are not guaranteed to deliver, so it makes sense to draft 3 of them that have delivered for their teams over multiple seasons and now you pretty much insure that ONE of these guys will be able to get it done.

I am not on this wagon. If you draft 3 guys that play the same position but have room for only 1 will ANY of them develop? I'm not saying its wrong. just that its logic doesn't jive with mine.

Well theoretically if Joe sticks to his guns there are 18 minutes a piece waiting for them at the 1 and 2 spots alone.

It's the "Joe sticks to his guns" part that I'm not so sure about.

It's the only thing that makes me hesitant to sign Free Agent vets this summer. It just gives Flip excuses to play someone other than the young talent.

can the team handle the influx of rookies? we could barely stomach the mistakes of 1 guy. if we hand out minutes isn't that coddling???

    Don't know.

    True.

    Probably. :)

The alternative though seems to be almost coddling the starters by guaranteeing them an abundance of minutes.

The only option seems to be hoping that players emerge off the bench that truly earn the minutes on the floor that Joe wants them to play.

I slowly start to like that Afflalo guy. He played solid at a high class college, just like Tayshaun.
And JoeD has already shown he's doing fine at picking late.

He was originally considered as a draft pick based upon the recommendations of Prince and Billups who have played summer hoops with him in Los Angeles over the last couple of years.

i like the pick. i liked his interview on draft night where he said 'i hate losing more than i enjoy winning'. i like how he played within a system at UCLA to win, despite the fact that it might have hurt his draft stock by not showcasing his individual talents as much.

That's the funniest thing I have read this morning Buddhafan.

    Afflalo was born in 1985.

    Great.

So now we've established that Afflalo is a liar.

Once he starts picking pockets and raining threes on Boobie Gibson, you'll feel better Cloud.

As an aside, I only figured that out because I am getting a bit older. Remember when players were older than you? Then you were around their age when they came into the league? I'm at the age where they are looking for their last deal, so those fresh faced puppies can't have seen everything I saw as a kid on TV.
