A new wings signing: DETROIT Center Brendan Brooks has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. Brooks hasn't played a game in the N-H-L. The 27-year-old Brooks had 14 goals and 27 points last year for the Peoria Rivermen in the American Hockey League. He has recorded 40 goals and 40 assists in 204 minor league games. Brooks likely will compete for one of Detroit's final roster spots during the preseason.
Totally sounds like a minor leauger. They had to bring up 3 or 4 guys to the big club, or lose them to free agency. They must be replenishing the Griffins.
Carter close to a deal with the Wings? link: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/5846126?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=142
It's hard to believe that the Wings have more room under the cap than other teams. I saw Carter play in college, and have always been a fan. Although he ripped us up when I was at Ferris State.
Legace lands in St. Louis. They've really upgraded their team this offseason. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2543792
Good for Manny. I was really beginning (as I am sure he was) to wonder if he was going to be in NHL this year. That's cool. I didn't really want him back here, but I didn't want him banished either.
Outstanding goaltender Dominic Vicari, who starred in net for the Michigan State Spartans, has signed with Detroit Red Wings affiliate Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League. Vicari, who will go to training camp with the Storm, has also been invited to Red Wings training camp in Traverse City.
DETROIT Pat Verbeek was hired Thursday to be a pro scout for the Detroit Red Wings. He played for Detroit, New Jersey, Hartford, the New York Rangers and Dallas during his 21-year career and had a combined one-thousand-63 points. Verbeek will help the Red Wings evaluate talent in both the N-H-L and American Hockey League, and will assist the coaching staff as it prepares for teams he has scouted.
I always liked Verbeek's game. He was an intelligent gritty player. The Wings might be salary hampered with the roster under the new CBA, but having wealthy ownership means we can buy the best front office and scouting staff anywhere...
YEah, and the other good thing is that it gets Verbeek out of the broadcast booth. His voice is more nasily than a country music singer.
Trade: The Detroit Red Wings traded goaltender Drew MacIntyre to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2007 NHL draft. MacIntyre was drafted by Detroit in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2002 draft.
That makes sense. They had 3 goalies sharing time in Grand Rapids last season, and now they're talking about bringing in that Swedish guy (Liv). Conditional pick meaning... as long as it's not too good, they get it (ala the Darko trade)?
The Detroit Red Wings signed general manager Ken Holland and assistant general manager Jim Nill to contract extensions Friday, keeping both in the team's front office through the 2010-11 season.
Most important signings for the franchise! The nice thing is that the Wings are rich and have an owner with deeper pockets. They can spend as much as they want on scouts and front office staff. Good job Wings!
