No mention at all for the Celtics?
Defense is all about effort man. Athletic ability will put one guy over the other if both give the same amount of effort on defense, but sometimes an unathletic guy can be a way better defender than other players because they put more emphasis on it.
I agree to some extent. A lot of quick guards blow past Billups and Hamilton. That has more to do with lack of athleticism/lateral quickness than it does effort, though. Ben Wallace used to erase a lot of their mistakes. Last year, Sheed, Dyess, Nazr earlier, and Webber later, picked up fouls just trying to stop guys that were blowing past the Piston perimeter defense.
They should work on their lateral quickness just a little bit harder than. Chauncey is getting older, but the whole change of defense happened from 05 to 06 very quickly, so it can't be because of the age. I hate the argument that the game is changing. Yes it is....so you stop playing defense? Does that help a team win?
Hamilton tends to play defense with his hands, and Billups with his body. Perhaps its time to stop buying into their own hype and start reading those scouting reports a lot more closely. Everyone has tendencies that can be negated. Just ask Jamaal Tinsley about CBill.
