Other players Maccabi is looking at, such as Will Blalock, Alex Acker, Zoran Planinic, Franck Williams and Maurice Evans, just don’t come close to Europe’s MVP.

While Maccabi looks out of the running for Macijauskas, who appears to be set to sign with Olympiacos, names such as Alex Acker, Ricky Price and Allan Ray have joined Tyus Edney and Frank Williams on the club's list of candidates.

    Interesting, you read the Haaretz?
    Isn't Paulding playing for Maccabi?

    What about rocket attacks?
Is that a good thing? Is going to Tel-Aviv supposed to be an opportunity of some kind?

Tel Aviv is a little bit too far away for the shabby Kassam's- at least for now.

You could say the same things about going to New York.

Seems that whatever Maccabi does, Olympiacos is duplicating. Acker could have two serious suitors in Europe, but I can't see him getting a better deal than he would make in the NBA. Then again, playing time and possible fringe benefits like living expenses free has to be attractive. As well as a long term deal. Maybe it's the years that are slowing down the negotiation process.

I really want Alex to stay. If Flip Murray doesn't pan out, or if Flip/Rip/CBill/Hunter gets injured, that depth will be valuable. I don't expect to see Will Blalock as a key backup this year.

I agree. It may cost Joe more to buy out acker. The biggest consolation is that Joe wanted Flip from the start so he must see something in him. He looks like a cheap FA pickup but joe was pursing him before the big ben debacle. :fingerscr is all i can say.

why do they want 2 of our players and one of our ex players and why don't they sign a free agent here instead of taking a NBA player under contract?Would Joe let blalock go??

Letting A.A. go is a mistake... the kid is NBA ready.
Bringing in a more selfish Flip Jr could be even a bigger mistake...
Gotta call it the way ya see it.

The thing that attracts me to Acker is that a bonafide NBA coach had him in college and liked him. Also that Acker possess some really unique length for a 6'3" SG. The kind of raw physical stats that you can't just find 4 or 5 times in a draft.

Per a discussion in the July News thread, this is some confirmation of Hobbs' take on Acker's FA status.

Who da man? Oh yeah, I da man.

I hope Acker does go overseas. He could learn a lot and come back a much better player. He's close to being a decent NBAer but not quite there yet and consistent playing time in real game situations (the D league ain't real-it's glorified summer league) could make all the difference.

This is, of course, provided he actually gets the playing time over there.

I read in the paper that we would still have rights to alex if he comes back here. Is that true?

This kid is gonna be a solid player... Trying to figure out how Joe goes from bring so high on him to basically letting him walk...
This is a prospect that I'll be watching closely...I predict a better pro career than Delfino's... even if it is overseas.

    Thats an interesting twist.

With the new 2nd round rule I think we can go over the min without the capspace?

Does not matter anyway. Can anyone honestly say that Acker would have seen more than 100mins next season? Not a slam on him, just going by what to expect.

Yes technically we could re-sign a 2nd rounder for a max contract as long as the MLE was not used in that year.
