Averages are just a way for statisticians to fudge their models. ;)

Going 2-7 last week was part of my Master Plan.

Okay it's Aurora from Novice back for more advice from the Advanced League. In short, what to do about Josh Howard. Drafted him in the 8th round and I'm pretty sure he's never played a game for me. Last week he comes back for 3 games and now he's out again and he's declared that "he's not coming back until he's 100% no matter how long it takes" and "playing part well and part not didn't work." So question is, is he a valuable enough player in your opinions to keep him even though this could go on a long time and he is injury prone or should I jettison him for someone less potentially productive but who is at least playing now, say Raja Bell who just got traded to the Golden State all offense shoot first pass never offense? Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Kimberly.

If you can swing a trade maybe try that. Name value alone might net you something decent in return, but be prepared to not get much for him. It may not be worth the time and effort.

Personally I would cut his ass and let someone else deal with him if they want.

His game isn't all that flash for fantasy anyway. He doesn't excel in any one category. Just sorta puts up average stats all round. Dallas is doing just fine without him, so I doubt they rush him back.

If there is a decent waiver option out there I'd jump on it. Raja Bell is intriguing. Or maybe Anthony Morrow? Azubuike is out for a while...

No deal. Josh is merely chronically injured whereas Allen Iverson is a future Hall of Fame nominee who is retiring. The Smooth Criminals Franchise in the Novice League is a Michael Jackson tribute league. When one of the Smooth Criminals of the stature of an Allen Iverson retires, we have one helluva party which requires weeks of partying, Allen signing jerseys from every place he played ball, giving out free shoes, raising his number to the rafters to his favorite MJ tune. Selected players and celebrities and politicial personages will be invited to red carpet parties where we will show highlight films and celebrate his long and improbable career. We will have close circuit television in select NBA cities for his fans to see his retirement party and send him their best wishes. Because we believe that there will never be another Allen Iverson.

Unless your franchise could promise contractually to grant him similar treatment in all its particulars, I'm afraid a trade is out of the question. We won't have Allen Iverson just...disappearing.

I'm thinking of taking Raja Bell. I just don't want to wonder when and if Josh is going to get back. I've already got Devin in and out with an injury. I already took Anthony Morrow tonight in the same league when I dropped another underperformer I had high hopes for. There isn't much out there in this daily league. This is a league I'm in with Bill Laimbeer where we don't know the people, so trading isn't that comfortable you know? And trading an injured guy? Nah, I think I'm going to cut my losses and take Raja before someone else figures out he's going to be shooting 3s for Golden State from now on. Thanks alot webz!

Now my pickups are falling. I got some good games out of Azubuike and now he's out for the season. Too bad for the kid, he was starting to figure it out.

Have you noticed that Yahoo is doing a lousy job of updating the little injury red flags. Azubuike doesn't have one but Tony Parker still does even while he played in the Spurs last game.

    dear aurora,
I have Josh Howard in Advanced - and he's killing me this far since I didn't even know about his injury when I drafted me and guys like Mike Bibby (whom I would desperately need right now as I have virtually no Point Guard) or Okafor were still around. But I have been waiting for so long now that I won't cut him until I know exactly how long he still needs to recover. If healthy, he's a decent source of points, steals, rebounds and 3's. Unless there's someone decent, keep him as he may come back sooner than you think. If there is, drop him as fast as you can, since ankle injuries can be very, very nagging.

Indeed. Outlaw is out until at least January and has no flag and I don't think Howard got a flag until he returned briefly and then went out again. Yahoo had a problem with flags last year also.

That'll make it much easier on the GM of the Smooth Criminals to solicit advice from the "experts".

You can scratch that Aurora. He is having season-ending surgery on his wrist. Seems he'd rather that than play for the Warriors. Can't say I blame him.

First Tony Parker isn't playing, then he is, then he isn't. If I had dropped him last night (didn't play - game time decision after playing last game) and put Chuck Hayes in the Sprockets would be 6-3 instead of 4-5, with a much more solid lead in steals.

    Phooey.
