AI isn't going to come into Detroit and take away the current jersey of a proven superstar (Walter Herrmann).

What about 30? Signifies how many titles he won wearing number 3 = 0 and the start of a new career.

Who cares in a way. But respect and fear aren't the same thing. Stuck could volunteer to give it up out of respect for a future hall of famer without that meaning that he's somehow afraid. Likewise, AI could volunteer to take a new number as a way of showing respect for stuckey and the whole of the Pistons team: a way of saying, "I know you're cohesive already, I know I'm just the new guy, and I want to fit in." That would be cool.

    Then, he could take 3.14159265358979323846…

#2 is already retired in tribute to Chuck Daly and the back-to-back 'ships.

How'd you like it if your name was changed to st7ofmind? It would ruin all meaning.

Hey wasn't that a really wierd looking #1. It was like a capital I without the horizontals at top and bottom. Not a very attractive font I say.

And didn't both AI and JD look all nervous about the jersey? It's like they didn't want to touch it. Maybe JD was anticipating the press reaction to #1 for AI. There was an audible gasp from the press ranks. I seriously didn't remember that that was Chauncey's number. AI has a way of sending me into memory loss and blackout. LOL.

I would think that this will hurt Chauncey's feelings. How can this be? Isn't there the possibility of retiring his number in the future? Maybe this is only temporary. Like they borrowed an old Chauncey jersey just for the presser.

How can retiring Chauncey's number not be in the plan? He was our MVP in 2004.

Professor, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Not at all. It just shows you have good taste in men. LOL. A man crush is pretty benign, really.

Now when you start having fantasies that a beautiful genie appears and gives you three wishes and you wish 1. you were 25 years younger and still at your peak of beauty and allure and 2. your second wish is for a romantic dinner date with Allen Iverson in which he talks about himself the entire time and 3. the inevitable result of such a date occurs....

Then you need to go see your therapist twice weekly instead of once. DANG!!!

Like I said, Professor, I think your man crush on AI shows your consistently intelligent and aesthetic good taste. LOL. Nice to see you on here Professor!

Well, for my money, if no one shed a tear over Stuckey taking #3, then I definitely won't be losing any sleep over AI taking #1.

Hell, if they can't save a jersey # for a 4-time DPOY (something only 4 players in the history of the game have achieved), then there's no reason to expect that they should save a # for a Finals MVP.

Have to agree with you on this one. They may have wanted to retire CB's #1 at some point in the future and Bens as well.

The All-Star guard, acquired in a trade with Denver on Monday, had wanted to wear his usual No. 3, which is currently being worn by second-year guard Rodney Stuckey.
Stuckey indicated he would be willing to give up the number, but the NBA ruled Tuesday that a change in numbers can't take place until after the season.
