I don't like the fact that Stack is floating around in f/a land. He serves as a lower cost alternative to Rip (a guy we're trying to trade to a team that needs a SG). ...Joe's water just got a little muddier.
Seems like a smart move by him. Stay put where he likes for a decent amount of money. At 33, he can probably sign another 2-3 year deal for MLE.
Apparently Grant Hill is staying put and looks like Nash's getting an extension which sealed the deal for Hill. Sources: Hill to stay with Suns - NBA - Yahoo! Sports&

Blazers make it official - Millsaps offered $32-36M Jazz have week to match ESPN - Chris Boussard "The Portland Trail Blazers have offered Utah Jazz free agent Paul Millsap a four-year contract worth between $32 million and $36 million, according to league sources. The offer includes a hefty signing bonus that will make it difficult for Utah to match. The Jazz will be presented with the offer Saturday and have seven days to match because Millsap is a restricted free agent."
LAKERS: Buss pulls offer to Odom off the table - SGVTribune.com Odom is looking for what??? He hasn't responded to the $9 mil/season? Jeez...
Odum to Miami.. Miami bids for Lakers free agent Odom Elliot Teaford - LA Daily News "The courtship of Lamar Odom has begun in earnest, with the Miami Heat reportedly offering the unrestricted free agent a five-year contract worth about $35 million. That's more years, but not more money than the Lakers offered him. Odom and his agent did not respond to the Lakers' offer, which angered team owner Jerry Buss, who yanked it off the table earlier this week. Actually, Odom had his choice of two offers from the Lakers. There was a three-year deal worth $30 million or a four-year contract worth $36million. Apparently, neither satisfied Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, who seek a five-year offer. Odom called Buss in an attempt to restart negotiations with the Lakers, according to a report Friday " Miami bids for Lakers free agent Odom - LA Daily News
What would have been the downside of not signing BG and keeping $10M in cap space unused if the right opportunity to get a big man did not come along? I understand the cap space is projected to shrink next year, but the effect would impact all teams and FAs. Are there any positives to keeping the powder dry?
Next year that space shrinks to less than the MLE that we will have whether we are over the soft cap or not. There will definitely be teams with more than $5 million to spend next summer. Even if we didn't sign Gordon we would not be one of those teams.
