How about it? Lots of conversation over the last two years here on PF.com about the possibility of bringing in Amare at this trade deadline, or that trade deadline, or in free agency. Well, now he is with out Nash, playing with another player that was highly discussed this past off-season (Raymond Felton). I realize he is playing in a D'Antoni system, is averaging nearly 19 FGA per game, but dude is tearing through the competition, and everyone knows it. Amare hasn't scored LESS THAN 30 points since Novermber 27th (34.4 PPG during that 9 game stretch), and averaging 9 boards a game. I would suggest that it would be hard to discount him from the MVP talk, and admit that Amare is a true threat who can make things happen on his own. Granted no argument he is not a traditional back to the basket 4, but gets the rack at will. At this point, I'd consider him in the running with D-Will, Westbrook, and D. Rose for MVP.
I never thought Amare had this in him. It's a long way to the end of the season, but he's certainly on the list right now.
Basically D'antoni-Amar'e show in the desert has been moved to Broadway with Felton stepping into the Nash distribution shoes. Felton is not Nash, but put a couple more players in there like Carmelo and a somebody who can play D and they will challenge the OLD celtics and New Heat for the next 2 years for ECF..probably moving ahead of the Magic and Bulls for a top 4 seed.
Amare for MVP, he's making a helluva case, as is is Derrick Rose and Derron Williams....oh and Dirk too, but it's a long season.
And then he has a second half like he played against the Heat and you realize maybe the old Amare, the black hole, isn't that far gone. Bad shot after bad shot with nary a single pass back to a teammate. I should have known not to doubt myself.
