We were rumoured to be trading for Frank Williams just prior to acquiring Arroyo. Then last summer (2006), Williams was invited to our Vegas Summer League team, but for unknown reasons, dropped out.
I think the Pistons are piss poor at developing youth. So what if Amir is a little small and needs to bulk up. That is no reason to have him rotting on the bench. Rip is small, Tay is small, I could go on. There are a ton of players undersized playing in the NBA. We are not asking Amir to be a hero just get in there and give 100% effort. I am quite sure that the size Amir may give up on the rare occasion he makes up for in speed and agility.
Skyforce loses 101-107 Amir: 35 minutes, 10 points (4-11 from field, 2-5 from line), 6 boards, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 4 fouls boxscore
If you've played the game you can understand the effects of body weight at a power position (PF was my position)... it takes less than one qtr for the weaker player to lose his quickness edge... for lack of a politically correct way to say this, the light in the pants player becomes the %%%%%... and he's eventually slapped into submission. Anyone see Corliss put up 30 and 12 tonight? I have a problem with teams that play the small ball technique thinking they're gaining an advantage with the new rules... it's still a game of leverage... you should always force the opponent to adjust to your size first because the inside game can not be denied.... layups and mercy fouls will beat dribble drives and the perimeter game... just ask the guy with all the rings (Shaq)
Wow, I've been typing about the glory of Corliss all day. This morning I watched him power past Jermainefor a nasty dunk. When JO cried, Big Nasty threw the ball at his head. I couldn't agree with you more. Big, determined, and a maybe a little mean goes a long, long way. God Bless Coliss, Ben, Double D, Ricky Mahorn, Sheed when he's determined, and Maxiell.
The time is nigh when there's gonna be more ballerinas than bulldozers at the PF position. Guys like Max will love it.
D-League Showcase NBA Development League: 2007 NBA D-League MLK Showcase It's in Sioux Falls where the Pistons' affiliate (the Skyforce) are based out of. Looks pretty cheap to take in a lot of basketball. I imagine this is a one stop shop for D-League scouting. That's bad if they get too close a look at Amir Johnson! I checked into going to Sioux Falls to catch a game or two. It's 13 hours by car from Windsor, or 2 connections by air out of Detroit. More trouble than it is worth in my opinion. Of course, the airport is quite literally kitty-corner from the arena. If I had less work on the go, I would be into a roadtrip...
Re: D-League Showcase The showcase is supposed to be on NBA TV (schedule here) and both Sioux Falls games will be live: Monday at 6:00 EST Wednesday at 6:00 EST The Wednesday game partially overlaps with the Pistons-Hornets game. You can also listen to radio feeds for all D-League games.
Re: D-League Showcase Anybody that drives 26 hours for a D-League game is insane... maybe unless they are playing in it. Still.
Re: D-League Showcase If I was still in Detroit, I would split the gas and the driving. Sounds like a really fun time. Plus, you know with the D League you will get to sit a couple of seats behind the bench.
Re: D-League Showcase For those that missed the game there was an added bonus.... Rick Kamla (sp) interviewed Ryan Hoover (director of player development)... he gave more insight into the Pistons brass thinking than any of our reporters have all season. On Amir... "he's extremely active... we're high on Amir... he doesn't shoot many 3's, that's not his game but he give s you shot blocking, runs the court very well ... he just wants to play... he wanted to stay with Fayetteville last year because he enjoys playing so much...etc" On Maxiell, he's shown us that he's ready to contribute and be a force using is body. Forgot the rest :^( On Samb "When anyone in our organization talks about Samb we get a big smile on our face... we were lucky to be able to draft him... he's a big time shot blocker and rebounder.. he's still a couple years away but we're very excited about him". On Acker..." He has a huge future with our team... he can score in a variety of ways handle the ball and distribute... he has a high basketball IQ"... Kamla "One of the leading scoreres in the Euroleagues" Blalock... "tough kid from Boston big body long arms can press and get up on you... hasn't shot much but we don't need that on our team" On Chauncey coming back... we're hoping by Wednesday but it's day to day". Well folks, our secret is out of the bag... Amir was all over the place today... even showing handles getting to the rack... the price of signing him is going up as we speak. I think he already has at least 5 block shots with 6 minutes left in the 4thr and 21 pts so far. I think he's done for the game (sits with 5= min left). Amir's got his shades on (bright future).
Re: D-League Showcase Damn, just checked the canadian sched and this is not on. If anyone is recording it, drop me a PM would ya?
Re: D-League Showcase amir's statline from today: 26 minutes, 23 points scored 9/16 shooting (1/1 from 3-point range) 4/5 free throws 8 rebounds 2 assists 3 steals 4 blocks 3 turnovers
