All it took was a broken back for him to get into the starting lineup?

If Maxiell had shown the same leadership that Stuckey had, Drummond would be starting next to Singler long time ago.

    I think it is.

Maxey plays with tons of heart and effort. He's a pro. He's just short.

Drummond should just give up on shooting the second free throw. He's not going to make it anyway.

What he should do instead is the old "throw the ball at the rim" technique. Then he should stand right inside the top of the key and, with a running start, "shoot" the ball, and time it so he lands after the ball hits the rim. Since he can get a running start and nobody else can, and because he's taller than 90% of the rest of the league, he'd have a really good chance of getting his own rebound and/or dunking the ball on the putback. This would result in what would easily be the most exciting free throw technique of all time, as it would either result in Drummond alley-ooping to himself or a total whiff.

Actually, they could do a play where he does the run-up, and either throws the ball at the rim and follows it, or tosses it like 25 feet in the air while dead-stopping, causing the opponents to go off balance, fall into the lane, and get a bonus free throw when that happens. He'd have to communicate this to his teammates, but that shouldn't be all that hard because they can huddle up before each shot.

I agree. Even an overhead baseball throw at the rim would be better than what he's doing.

Actually, the FT shooter cannot cross the plane of the FT line until the ball has hit the rim.

I looked around but couldn't find the language that said this. Got a reference by chance?

Other than that, he can still time it so that he doesn't cross the plane until the ball hits the rim.

Yeah, thats a rule. You can cross the FT line only when the ball hits the rim. Also free throw is only valid if it hits the rim, so you can't just throw the ball on the board and catch it.

I was aware of that one, but the crossing the plane one didn't feel right to me because shooters cross it with their arms all the time.

If you step on the line before the ball touches the rim, officials will call it every time. If parts of your body cross the plane, a violation isn't going to get called unless you are trying to get a jump start on an offensive rebound.

Yeah, and if he started doing it they'd start calling it pretty quickly.
