For me, the jury is still out for him. Even though he has been hitting the weights, missing last year hurt him. By beefing-up I hope he gets more usage at the 4. He has a high motor, but he is along ways from being a dangerous 3.

I agree. So far he has proven to be a solid bench guy. His defense needs improvement from what I recall.

Most problems for him (we are speaking about defense) is that the longer the distance from the small rim circle, the more dependence on quick feet and high agility. P/R negates the tall slumber types, hence they can not (or refuse) to react is double coverage. Good coaching understands this. This is one of the reasons that Miami got beat. Their poor offensive strategy (no P/R) allowed Wade and James to do their high profile (watch me take on all of the other five) acts when a more team effort would have open up their extreme athleticism toward the inside. This means that you have your team accept more fouls from the opposition (and not forced threes with 5 seconds left)...kinda like having Dirk at the foul line X 3. This gives Chalmers, Miller and House some very good looks. I expect to see a different offensive and defensive (the right zone at the right time) style from the Heat next year or at the very least a new coach. Riley should now know better.

One of JJ's strength's defensively is his footwork...very quick feet.

Agreed. Defensively this is true. I have never criticized his defensive effort, especially at the four position. It is when the roles are reversed (defensive vs offensive) and he must now face the basket as an offensive threat. Only on a quick switch, should he ever be in Daye, or CV territory, where he becomes transposed into them...oh good, another 6-10 player putting up a 25 foot jump shot...I mean, what else can they do?

I am only worried that this is not the same intensified JJ that we last saw in April 2010....I mean even if he is fully recovered, will there be some limitations or caution in his play? Did the year off hinder him from building on what we all saw was a great potential NBA career?

I am sure that he missed playing in everyday contact and has the desire, but you never know what to expect even from other second year guys, so I would not want to put to high an expectation on him until he actually gets out there and starts showing us the same JJ+ we all fell in love with. Just sayin....:sssh:

Here is Joes 2011-12 project. Veterans minimum, rejecting a late 1st round offer in Feb, caught laughing at the coach in April.

I think so. I'm pretty sure they are related somehow.

I like Klay Thompson too and his BB IQ since he is Mychal's son. It may not have translated that much from Darren Daye to Austin, but Mychal has studied the game well being the Laker radio color guy for the last 8+ years and Klay had to have picked up his BB smarts from there. The skills are there for 75% of the players, but only a handful have the basketball smarts the first couple of years.

The Warriors and Jazz are taking a long look at him, but some team between 8 and 10 may take him before their 11th and 12th selections...:sssh:

i actually kind of like the idea of having two combo guards like stuckey and burks together in the backcourt.

It would lead to us getting the #1 draft pick in 2012...so we'd have that going for us. :stirthepot:

Why don't we target Jeremy Tyler with our first pick in the 2nd?

It's not like 2nd rounders usually pan out, so you have to take a risk.

This is a deep draft into the mid-second round, with players who might be just as highly rated as the players in the mid-first round. Plus, the Pistons have been very strong drafters in the 2nd round.

    Excellent point.

We have just as good of a chance of getting a second round "steal" as any team.

Joe is also good at picking 2nd rounders in the 1st round.
