There's also the pure tempo issue. The Suns get 7 extra offensive possessions per game. So, even if he plays the same, his numbers will be down 8%. If we get a big that can score, then he should probably be the focal point of our offense.
Absolutely. One of the big decisions for JD and coach, is how do you tailor your team for each individual talent and make them all mesh. Your bench is youth and wind. Getting someone like Amare means he needs space and a point guard that sets the sails. And no, I don't mean Stuckey is the one who can do it. Now, Rip is a natural fit since he makes his own wind, which can be a problem at times. Also this means, there goes the defense. But, of course in these times, fans don't pack the stadiums to root for defense. I'll leave Tay for another time.
I don't think I would ever consider trading Rip during this contract. He's in his prime, he's probably in the best condition of any NBA player, he scores a lot efficiently, he hits 3's, has a spectacular mid-range game, gets inside some, gets to the line, and is big enough to play SF in a pinch. And with all that, we have him locked in for multiple years at a nice salary level. Why would you get rid of a guy like that?
The problem with some of these ego-maniacs like LeBron, Wade or Bosh is that they don't realize what an honor it is to set screens for Rip.
He's got Piston DNA dripping off of him. He's the total package, he's an undersized combo guard who's a liability on D because of his lack of size. He should command modest dollars also. It's obvious to me that the Pistons are just a couple of guards short from watching them this year.
C'mon, I'm gonna have to try and sleep soon.......... If they do make a move like this I hope thy can find a 3 who's slower and less explosive than Tay to really compliment them.
I'm seeing a big lineup of Stuckey, Afflalo, Ben Gordon, Bobby Jackson and Rip. If we have to go small, we bring in Bynum for Jackson and AI for Afflalo.
You really got me going with Bob Jackson. Seeing how he's a undersized combo on the downside of his career I think he'd make a great defensive specialist. Once Gordon is done getting torched you put Jack in for a change of pace while the offense totally bogs down because he can't hit a shot. I don't think he'll ask for a lot of money either. Now that we got the guards covered we just need to find a few one dimensional undersized "bigs" and scour the smaller conferences for the next stiff Joe can draft in the 2nd round.
"If you look at the guys Joe Dumars has brought to Detroit, they're in their mid-20s and they're in need of a new home." Excellent player evaluation criteria. Almost impossible to argue with. Get it done Joe.
