I also red this article and I think Joe's thinking is spot on, what I was wondering is i've heard him mention his make that move for the perfect player if it comes up but right now what would be that perfect player?
I was really high on Brand, but he's been a bit disappointing this year, considering the commitment they made to him. I would be very afraid of guarantying that much money to a player for that long.
Think we may have to bite the bullet and move AI ( if a deal is there ). Rip is what 30 and just signed a reasonable extension. Moving forward we would have the starting backcourt and SF positions locked up. AA is a decent 3rd guard. So you just have to worry about the frontcourt. Maybe they can move AI for a decent frontcourt guy ( and some expiring contracts ) and we would be in a pretty good position. More easily said than done.
We are NOT winning the title this year or next. This is reminiscent of when the Lions went 9-7 or 10-6 but never won in the playoffs. Of course we long for those days now. Lets not do this to this team. Id rather see good 55 win ball and ECF exit, than what we are seeing now. Id trade Sheed to New Orleans for future considerations Id trade Ai to Bucks for the same. They need a scorer now. Lets not hold on too long to the past... deja vu?
MAKE THE MOVE JOE! He is perfect for us. He sucks on Philly because they run, and he's a half-court guy. We do not run at all. Give them Rip (hometown guy) and Max, and call it a day. We keep the cap-space of AI/Sheed, and don't really add additional long contracts because his is the same length as Rip's deal. Would be nice to be adding 2009/2010 Free Agents to a core of Stuckey, Prince, and Brand. We wouldn't need a guy like Bosh. Someone like Tyson Chandler would be a perfect fit. Then a nice shooter/defender to start at SG (or hope that AA gets some more consistency on that J).
I'll be wary from taking a guy like Brand (because of his injury.) He did look healthy in Philly (but did get hurt), but then again Pistons do have Arnie Kander.
Really? Is that true? Even year after year? Man you have more -- or a different kind of -- patience than I. I don't love what I'm seeing now, but I sure like it better than "good 55 win ball and ECF exit" set to infinite re-play.
At the risk of talking to myself, those quotes seem to indicate someone who's not planning on staying. It's probably going to be a mutual divorce. Maybe it's time to see what value that expiring can bring.
I read that article differently. It's a nice propaganda puff piece. Joe likes Curry, so no matter how the team does, there will be no accountability, so fans should just deal with it. Wow, as a customer I am getting more turned off every day.
I don't know. He liked George Irvine and canned him after a year. Flip was our sacred cow as far as proving to the league that we could keep a coach for more than 2 years. Only thing that may save Curry is how weak our frontcourt is. This is probably the worst frontcourt we have had since the teal days. Even his 32-50 win team may have had a better frontcourt and this is from a GM who has prided himself on his frontcourt. Either he is planning something really big over the summer or will make a deal shortly. Then perhaps he will see how Curry does with a winnable frontcourt. You can knock him for not playing Kwame but I mean he is Kwame. I just don't see Kwame and Amir making us instant contenders.

AI for Shaq? We'd still get the big expiring contract, just 1 year later. Sheed and Shaq would be a good combo. It would help Phoenix start their rebuild after this season ends.
Kerr said they'd consider expiring contracts, draft picks and young players. Going by that, the only players on the roster that Phoenix would be interested in acquiring would be: AJ Maxiell Sheed AI Stuckey They want to dump Stoudemire, not Shaq. So, something that could work is AI & Maxiell for Stoudemire & Barbosa. Phoenix gets a nice young PF in Maxiell and will have 40 million expiring over the next two seasons. We get a decent PF and an explosive guard who is actually accustomed to come off the bench. The intangible benefit is that Rip can now go back to the starting lineup. Starting Stuckey-Rip-Prince-Stoudemire-Sheed, with Barbosa, AA, AJ, Dice, Kwame off the bench. I still don't think that lineup can beat Boston though.
