Sometimes when you try to bank a shot that is not from a good angle you have to bank it off very high. If it is not done correctly it can be pretty ugly, but the shot is not as bad as it looks (like the announcer on the replay said).

I would take him if he comes cheap. Why wouldn't Joe Dumars do the same?

Foyle is a complete bum. He's a veteran, but he can't score at all, he's a super soft rebounder, and once every three or five games, he has a couple blocks.

I'm all for signing him for depth, and maybe to bump up against Shaq a couple times a season, but for all intents and purposes, he's going to give you as much as Samb, and possibly less.

I can't believe other teams wouldn't give Dale Davis a look. He would be a good sidekick for Dwight.

    Is Mutumbo still available?

    He is only 41. LOL

I saw him play serveral games last year when he was put into the starting role. He did put up good numbers in limited playing time. He actually held up fairly well when Yao Ming went down last year with his injury.

He wouldn't work as a starter, but as backup he could probably still bring about 10 decent minutes a game, especially in rebounding and on defense.

I thought Celtics were after Mutombo. I may have read it somewhere.

Exactly! You can stop right there. Let him go to Orlando. Any bum is a good bum for them.

There is no question that when you are over the Cap in the NBA it can be terribly taxing cash wise.

I was looking at the offensive and defensive stats for each Pistons player and I stumbled upon something truly shocking. Need some help explaining it away.

The Pistons statistically have the best defensive statistics this year when Nazr Mohammed is on the court. We score 109 and give up only 99 per 100 possessions. That 99 points is a full 3 points lower than any other player we have. His +10 point spread is about the same as Sheed and Tay. Plus, most of Nazr's minutes are with other players who have horrible defensive stats.

The details show that the reason for the good D is simple, low eFG% by the other team. They only shoot 43.4% when he's out there (including adjustments for 3's!). Rebounding, turnovers, blocks, and all the rest are virtually a push. And 22% of the total potential minutes is a fairly significant sample size.

I'm just wondering if maybe he is actually effective just by being a big true center, despite all the nastiness. Maybe Flip is using him in perfect situations that really play to his strengths?

I don't know. All I know is that he seems like he sucks and I would never have guessed that he could be leading our team in any positive statistic. As I said, I need help explaining this away.

Some things are just not going to be understood. We're talking about the superficial powers here. Or Nazr is a star in hiding. Because anytime he's on the court he manages to turn the ball over, foul someone, miss a shot, or just watch the opponent blow by. It is quite possible that it is similar to the red light theory. You always seem to notice the red lights, but never pay attention when you're driving through on green, making it look like you hit all the red lights which is not true according to statistics.

Nazr Mohammed of the Detroit Pistons, On Court / Off Court stats from 82games.com

That red light theory is sort of what I'm thinking.

The turnovers are even when he's out there.

One thing to notice is that our rebounding is better when he's on the court. We grab a higher percentage of both offensive and defensive rebounds.

In fact, he leads the team in that too now that I see it.

It defies intuition, that is for sure. But he really is our only true C. And maybe some of those rebounds he gets that look easy are only easy because he had position and boxed out. I just don't know.

I like those stats. If you look at those things just right Super Dupe is the best player on the team,+31.7. Man with Dupe we only give up 80 per 100 possesions and score 120! And opponent FG% is a measily 22%

    Super Dupe for MVP!
