There is a chance the Pistons could lose Amir Johnson this summer. Signing Billups and Hill, the Pistons will be flirting dangerously with the luxury-tax threshold. Johnson is a restricted free agent, which means the Pistons can match any offer he receives.

Does this not make Hill the teams 2nd priority instead of Amir Johnson? I thought getting Amir back was priority #2 and Dumars was ready to match any MLE offers?

Is McKosky wrong or did the priorities change?

I can't believe that bringing in a half way burnt out G.Hill for a season or 2 is more important that re-signing your future super star. Besides the draft day company line was we went with guards since we still have Amir to play up front.

The Pistons may have a tougher time trying to re-sign Amir Johnson.
The 6-9 forward has played sparingly in his first two seasons, but that hasn't stopped teams from aggressively pursuing him.
Johnson's agent, Bill Duffy, said Sunday morning that six teams had already contacted him to express interest in signing the restricted free agent. The Pistons will have seven days to match any offer Johnson receives. However, re-signing Billups will push Detroit's salary total close to the league's luxury tax threshold. That might deter the Pistons from matching another team's offer for Johnson.

In addition to their own free agents, the Pistons have their sights set on adding a free-agent small forward. Although ex-Piston Grant Hill has been their top target, they might look closer at Toronto's Mo Peterson. The 6-7 guard/forward, who played at Michigan State, is unlikely to return to the Raptors after they traded for ex-Piston Carlos Delfino. Toronto has also reportedly agreed to a four-year, $24 million contract with Miami's Jason Kapono. Another option the Pistons might consider is New Orleans guard/forward Desmond Mason.

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]In somewhat of a shocking non-move, the Magic did not contact Milicic's representatives Sunday, possibly sending the message that they have no interest in re-signing the 7-footer from Serbia and Montenegro. Milicic's camp is demanding a contract worth approximately $10 million a season and Orlando has no desire to pay that amount, according to an NBA source close to the negotiations.
Milicic's agent, Marc Cornstein, admitted that he was surprised at the Magic's lack of outward interest and he confirmed Lewis was visiting Orlando on Sunday. Because the Magic have just $10-13 million in salary cap space, it is highly unlikely that they would be able to sign Lewis away from the Seattle SuperSonics and also retain Milicic.
"I didn't get a call from (the Magic) at 12:01, 12:02, 12:05 or 4:20 (Sunday) morning," Cornstein said. "I've talked to many, many teams around the league, but Orlando isn't one of them. I've learned not to be shocked with anything that goes on, but hey, it is what it is right now."

No Wolverines picked in NBA Draft once again ::

Childhood dreams came true at the 2007 NBA Draft Thursday night. Sixty college-aged basketball players were selected by NBA teams and officially became professionals. Many of them became millionaires.

But there is no happy ending for any members of the Michigan men's basketball team's 2007 graduating class - at least not yet. Lester Abram, Dion Harris, Brent Petway and Courtney Sims were not among those drafted at the Madison Square Garden Theater. This marks the third-consecutive year that no Wolverine was picked.

Will Joakim Noah fit the bill? :: Beacon News :: Sports ::

It will be interesting to see how the Chicago fans treat the newest Bull, Joakim Noah.
Noah, selected with the No. 9 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft, doesn't strike me as the most beloved figure out there. I've read a lot of negative reaction to this pick.
A lot of college basketball fans dislike Noah, partly because he played for a two-time national champion at Florida. Sometimes, America hates a winner.
However, Noah doesn't endear himself with his constant whining at the officials. He also has a habit of talking as if he is from the mean, hardened streets of New York, when the whole world knows his parents are rich and famous. Personally, I just got tired of watching Noah fix his hair every five minutes. Cut that stuff down a little bit, dog.

I'd say they're no good. Even if the coach is not great but there's talent they should at least make the NCAA. They failed miserably. Just look at Magic, they made the playoffs without coaching.

The new Wolverine coach will have to recruit a couple of "Mr. Basketballs to get "M" back to a tourney.... and then maybe they can get a Wolverine drafted..

DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright calls and starts talking about Blue Demons Wilson Chandler and Sammy Mejia, whom the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons, respectively, selected in last week's NBA draft.

He mentions their unselfishness and their versatility, their commitment to the program and, most pointedly, their work ethic even when not in the spotlight.

He recalls other players he has coached, the Spurs' Tim Duncan the most prominent among them, when Wainwright was an assistant at Wake Forest. And then he says of his more recent pair: "They are two of the top-five practice players I've ever had. They never had a bad practice. Never. ... Talk about guys who came in every day and won every drill. You never had to talk about effort with them. They were throwback guys."

As time ran out in overtime with the score still tied, Sammy Mejia threw up a three. In less than a second, the 57th pick in this year’s draft had won his very first game in an NBA uniform. It was the last minute pick who hit the last second shot.

56 players were selected before the Detroit Pistons chose the 6’6” guard from DePaul. On Saturday at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Mejia proved he was worth the wait. The Pistons walked away with a 91-89 overtime victory over the Phildelphia 76ers.

Player comparisons are common around draft time and when the summer league kicks off a week or so later. During this time, we are forced to hear this guy or that guy is going to be the next Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, or Larry Bird. Usually these comparisons simply don't carry much weight. However, when the guy making the comparison is named Joe Dumars and he's comparing himself to his new first round draft pick Rodney Stuckey... well, people tend to listen a little more closely.

Going into his third season in the league, Maxiell has long been called a player cut from the same mold as former Piston All-Star Ben Wallace. He's physically imposing with a nasty streak, can get to the rim, defend, and rebound. Unlike Wallace though, Maxiell has a pretty decent offensive game and a little bit of range on his jumper. In fact, one of the reasons the Pistons let Wallace walk last season to the Chicago Bulls was Maxiell.

Now, Orlando is looking to maneuver so that it can hang on to the 7-foot Milicic to fortify the frontline.[/FONT]
[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Keeping Milicic is of importance because the Magic have only Dwight Howard, Tony Battie, Pat Garrity and James Augustine along the frontline.[/FONT]
