ASB is one of the few beat writers with cred.

Neat story about Drew Sharp. When he started out, he was the Pistons beat writer in 1989. He was around Chuck Daly and heard Daddy Rich say that "Dantley had to go" (para-phrased). Because it was off the record, and he was wet behind the ears, he kept his mouth shut.

But he heard and saw the Aguirre trade materialize during discussions on Roundball One back when the writers would travel with the team on road trips.

These guys have a LOT of access and tread a fine line between breaking news, and exploiting the inside connection they have. I respect the ones who produce tangible facts after the story has broke. Recently listening to McCoskey on WDFN when he mentioned that (it was known) Uncle Cliffy was moved because he was becoming a bad influence on Memo was very interesting. WHY THE HELL WAS THIS NEVER WRITTEN BEFORE?

I imagine if the Pistons let me get close I would be tempted to spill everything and embarass a lot of people. But that wouldn't mean that my reports should be devoid of any insight or definition.
