Minesota lost by 17 points tonight - at home - to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks were without their second-highest scorer, Tyronn Lue, and their starting point guard, Speedy Claxton. Their starting lineup featured Lorenzen Wright, who for some reason is still in the NBA, and Royal Ivey, who for a completely different but equally confusing reason is still in the NBA.
Webber to start tonight MLive.com: Everything Michigan Blakely says he'll have more on it later, but thought this might interest some people that he's being put in the starting lineup so quickly.
Re: Webber to start tonight I thought Webber looked really out of shape last game. I hope his conditioning level doesn't lead to injury with extended minutes. Saunders theory on playing Sheed into shape has had negative results.
Re: Webber to start tonight This isn't directed at you, 'scoe, however I think the "out of shape" argument is a cliche that people like to toss around whenever a guys is having a bad go of it. I've seen Sheed walking around in public (during my days in Portland) and he is hardly out of shape. This guy is never going to show up in camp looking like Ben Wallace, but out of shape?....Nah. My deal is with, like you said, injury stemming from extended minutes. Sheed's been hurting, but you never see Flip shorten the line. That's a prime circumstance for a late season injury as the body fatigues. Additionally, Saunders will have Webber up to 40 min/night by the end of next week and he will surely be unavailable come April. This guys has no concept of how to manage the minutes of his players and in his "playbook" you just run the starters until one of 3 things happens: a) They physically pass out from exhaustion b) They foul out in the 2nd Qtr or c) They break something fundamental to their ability to play said 40/min a night. We will simply flame out at the end of a year with a wimper...we won't even be able to go out with a bang.
Re: Webber to start tonight Webber actually did a decent job defensively on KG in one of their meetings last season - racked up a career high in defensive rebounds as well. Watching him run the floor against Garnett will not be pretty, though.
Re: Webber to start tonight I was pretty impressed with Webber's rebounding and defensive hustle (given his limited mobility). But you can see he is clearly not in shape. He's carrying a few extra pounds (look at the flab on his upper arms and in his face) and he really seemed winded the longer he played. I'm not just throwing that out as a cliche. It's something I (correctly or incorrectly) observed. I'm not too pumped about CWebb, except that we might be able to generate a little more on the boards and finishing around the hoop (either himself or with cutters).
Re: Webber to start tonight I DO agree that Webber is probably not in game shape. There is no way he could be with the minimal amount of minutes he's playe this season.
Re: Webber to start tonight I'd like to see Webber in there as soon as possible, out of shape or not, losses or not, in order to develop chemistry with the starting unit. Developing that chemistry is the key to winning it all. Doesn't mean extended minutes necessarily, but time on the floor with the starters.
Re: Webber to start tonight I do too, but the point about his conditioning level leading to an injury is quite valid. Hopefully this is taken into consideration before playing him. Does Flip listen to Kander? We already know that he ignores candor. Anyhow, hopefully Kander is consulted first and gives his candid response that Webber is ready to play extended minutes without unecessarily risking injury.
Re: Webber to start tonight Me: Hey Flip, will Maxiell play tonight? Shake, shake, shake.... Flip: Hmm, the future is cloudy... I guess I should take that as another DNP. Me: Is that what the 8 ball said last time? Flip: No, it said 'Its possible', but I decided not to risk it. Me: Loser.

Well its halftime and it still a stalemate at 39-39. Webber made some passes and hit 4-5, but the rest of the team is struggling shooting wise, but so are t-wolves. Stay tuned, this one will go down to end as our guys are still trying to find a new identity. Problem is that they still like to shoot jumpers too.
