That's the problem with the internet, everyone overreacts. How often do they play 5 on 5 in the NBA anyway?

    LOSER: Detroit Pistons
First-round pick Austin Daye is a really nice, 6-11 forward from Gonzaga. He also weighs just 190 pounds and was routinely pushed around in college. Pistons GM Joe Dumars has made some nice non-lottery picks through the years, but at 15 and for a team in need of talent, this is a looong-term project and more than a bit of a reach.

Very pretty stroke, nice length span as well, but he needs to hit the weight room.

With Amir gone, we obviously needed another skinny player to fill the void. And it seems like Tay/him are destined to get along beautifully.

Do we really need Tayshaun II? Man, I'm disappointed. I was hoping he made this pick in order to trade him and someone else for someone we REALLY wanted.

Maybe he could be Rip's replacement at the 2?

The knock on Daye is he lacks the lateral quickness to guard the 3, let alone the 2, and lacks the strength to guard the 5.

At the moment, he is best described as a beanstalk tweener that can shoot it.

    ^ this.

The fact that is he is paper thin like Amir and is expected to play the 4, doesn't help.

Austin Daye is at worst a three-point specialist. He's a more athletic, taller Walter Herrmann. I don't have a problem with that in this draft. I don't ever see him starting for Detroit, but he could be a giant Eddie House off the bench. An 8th man type of player.

Folks concerned about his size and weight need to quit their bawlin'.

The same cats were hyping Oden and knocking Durant, for his size and weight...where are you all now?

When Tayshaun was drafted the same folks....(yes, YOU, if it applies) were calling him a tier whatever piece of nothing that would never start in this league.

I told those folks then that Tayshaun was a tremendously skilled player that would have never slipped to us if Kentucky would have had a better tourney run.

And I'm telling you same people right now-

Austin Daye is a Sophomore with a tremendous amount of skill that could have been a top 5 pick had he went back to school. He came out a year early and Joe stole him from at least 10 other teams, possibly more.

Welcome to the new Paper Thin.

You can teach a lot, but you can't teach tall. And a tall three is a joy to behold.

    Nice to see you, KGREG!

Lee is going to have a field "Daye" with this guy.

    1) :pound::pound:

    2) Comeon', you and I both know that the less PT Daye sees the greater the chance that Lee will declare him the next Kevin Garnett.

I hear you Ernie, I am so freckin tired of player projects.... We don't have the time or patience for that bullshyt anymore, we need guys ready to play NOW!!!!! I never expected to draft an impact player at this spot anyway, but I at least wanted a solid player that could contribute, damn!?! I can't really see this guy successfully guarding any SF's or PF's in the league right now, Dumars needs to beg for consulting from Zeke before these draft choices... How can he have so many repeated F ups and gaffes in the 1st round, sheesh!!!

No you don't Ty, even if you don't realize it yet.

You want a guy that will be balling alongside Stuckey (the real future of our franchise in the mind of Joe Dumars) when he is in his prime 4-5 years from now.

That player could very well be Austin Daye.

Yep with another team after Joe gets tired of waiting for him to get strong enough to hold ground.
    He could hide behind Samb.

I've heard everything you can throw at Daye thrown at Durant and Tayshaun and Reggie Miller.

In that light it really means squat, doesn't it?

If he can play, he can play.

    Let's wait and see.
