Certainly that gr8 lateral quickness will make up for his lack of strength... er... wait. Word is that he's signed an endorsement deal with How To Gain Weight and Build Muscle Fast The timing couldn't be any worse... Michael Jackson was getting ready for the big "Daye famine benefit". Humor is the best medicine for projects... Arnie better not quit his Daye job
I'll admit straight away that I don't know much about college players aside from what pick up during March Madness and rants from Dickie-V. But I kinda get the feeling that Joe did ok with this draft. I half expected one of two scenarios: 1. Joe would draft a guard @ 15 who would be buried behind Stucky and Bynum for 3 years. In round two, I thought he'd duplicate last year's model by picking up the "best available player that's cool with being stashed in Europe" with each of those selections. 2. Same as above only he'd draft Mullens as a prospect to do what he essentially did in college (sit on the bench). I honestly think that Joe got at least 2 guys who might crack the rotation in their rookie year; -which is actually encouraging for me. The Chase Budinger deal is a bit of a head scratcher for me but maybe there's more two it than we know.
I dunno, has sun overwarmed heads little bit here but from where ppl expected to get at 15 "ready to contribute" player in a weak draft????? I have no idea, who are most draftees but only 5-10, usually less, contribute 1st year from selected 60.
One thing that is for certain is that if Austin Daye ends up producing the comedians will pretend they never typed all of this material.
That's the thing. The key, if you will (not to sound like Dave Bing). Is Stuckey really the guy that Joe HOPES or THINKS he will be? Because if he isn't thats going to set the plan back two years or so. I really like Stuckey and really want him to succeed But last year he just...I don't know. I guess it takes time to lern the position and there were so many problems with the team that it affected his play in an adverse fashion. Maybe he IS the right guy. I just don't know...
I like this pick. You have a crap shoot draft and Daye is unique talent. I'm thinking a possible hedo turkoglu type player that can cause mismatches as a 6th man. Either way, I'm excited to see this guy develop and get all frustrated that he's not growing/playing/contributing as much as he should. Welcome....Austin!
Cloud, I am with you. What's the hurry to brand the kid a bust before he's played even 1 minute on the court? Maybe he will not do anything in the NBA, but lets not get to the conclusions yet.
I don't know either. On the one hand, I don't want to come out and bash the guy because of his rail thin physique and then have him blossom into a solid player in a couple of years. Then Cloud will come back and ridicule me for not backing him from the start. It's one of those things that if you don't hop on the bandwagon at the start you lose all credibility when you try to hop on later. On the other hand, I don't want to get caught up in a Paulding-Acker frenzy of excitement about his possible potential either. I guess I'll just say that Daye has skills that if fully utilized in the proper situation at some point in the future could possibly open the door to his becoming a solid NBA player.
It's not that at all. It's just like this post right here. I'm trying to center you and keep you from swinging to the often inappropriate extremes, which are more often wrong than right. I'm not ridiculing anyone. I'm just reminding them of past times when extreme conclusion jumps have been proven to be false. Not just others, but my own as well.
I'm sure Joe leaned over to Kander during the workouts and asked, can you do something about the guys abject frailty? And Kander looked Daye over and said: We'll work his core strength and balance. We should be good.
Waiting to see how a player turns out before praising or criticising him takes all the fun out of it. It doesn't matter if we're wrong here. It's all about highlighting your correct guesses and explaining away your misses after the fact.
