Avery Johnson was almost our coach. With all of the appreciation threads out there I think we should honor him too.

I thought Avery did a much better job than Mike Curry.

    I wish him well.

He didn't use Arron Afflalo enough.

AJ, I only wish I could sit at home and do nothing but love my children, spend time on the internet, and occasionally fly out to Bristol, Connecticut or NBA venues to give opinions on the game of basketball in a southern drawllllll and still get paid $8 Mill from Marc Cuban.com Inc. for the next couple of years.....afterall why would I go to Detroit where fans will be dogging me for every loss and win....

if Avery's departure means hiring Bill "vox populi" Laimbeer then it is clear that Avrey's part can never be apperciated enough.

I'm on record that I preferred another coach before the firing, so that's out of the way.

JD had his hat in hand and went seeking with damaged goods:
    • He had a mind set that had limited funds, duration of contract and an utmost opinion of himself of keeping complete control.
    • AJ had the complete opposite mental image of his wants.
    • JD made small and doubtful signs with before/after comments.
Not meant to be and Plan B: which means John Kuester.

I have no idea what Cowen's job is, does anyone?

He actually managed the team character very well. Under his tutelage none of the players got technical fouls.

During his brief tenure, Detroit's winning percentage reached infinity.

    Wow. Lots of great comments.

I'm thinking he still ranks below Chuck Daly and Larry Brown as one of the greatest Pistons coaches ever, but probably above Ray Scott and Rick Carlisle? Just imagine what he might have accomplished if he had stuck around a bit longer.

Avery was simply not a good person. Don't let the door hit you in the front.

I think after two days of listening to that voice Dumars began thinking he'd rather hear blunt nails dragged across a chalkboard. Rather stomp kittens into the mud than force the team to listen to that voice day in and day out. Rather give himself a complete body tattoo with a hot fire poke than spend an hour after every game with Avery in that stinking locker room.

You have to figure the cat is pulling down $4M a year for the next two plus getting some green for his ESPN work. I think he was also getting money from the "Mens Warehouse" or JC Pennys mens wear department on top of that.

No telling how match scratch Joe was asking him to leave on the table.
Avery wasn't his first choice anyway, glad he corrected course..
