I remember Cabrera started his Tiger season in similar fashion. Many were calling for stiffer punishment, or at least some time at the clinic for his drinking problem. I was surprised when the Tigers embraced him and he just returned to start the season. I certainly don't know all the details of what the Tigers did for him, but it really has worked so far. Winning the batting title with an average like that is tremendous. Wonder what opportunities Ben Wallace will be afforded by the Pistons.
We know Ben as a great player but we don't know him personally. He could be a drunken chump for all we know.
Usually the guys who have the real alcohol problems have more shameful occurance like this. Ben's rep is first in the weight room and last out. But you're right, we don't really know.
It almost seems like in this day and age of drunk driving awareness that if you are caught then you almost have to have some kind of a problem. Who gets pulled over for a DUI anymore? I am not going to hold it against him -whatever. He was a great player and a great Piston. I hope he does retire but not for this reason.
So the weapon is registered to his wife. He's in trouble because he didn't have a concealed carry permit for an unloaded gun in his vehicle. Something that in some states is not even illegal (like Utah, if I remember correctly).
In Montana...I think you're allowed up to 8 guns in your pick-up. 5 must be in the gun rack though.......
Big Ben just tied Avery Johnson for the most games played by an undrafted player since the ABA/NBA merger. What a magnificent accomplishment! Hats off to you Big Ben!
Watching Big Ben last night, he really doesn't belong on an NBA court anymore. He cannot defend. He cannot score. He can barely catch a pass that is thrown to him. He gives it his all and a couple of rebounds will fall his way each game. Thanks for the memories, Big Ben, but it's time to move aside and let someone like Vernon Macklin use those 10-15 minutes per game.
I think the edict to bench Wallace would have to come from Dumars. Coach Frank is too respectful of Big Ben (rightfully so) to sit him on the bench. The only other scenario would be for Ben to volunteer to sit in order for younger guys to get valuable game minutes.
