I'm not a Laimbeer fan myself. I think people remember him as a Piston hero and think that will carry over into coaching.

We don't know how either Curry or Laimbeer would do as coach. We are just speculating from the characteristics they had as players and the little we know from their coaching. Dumars is in an excellent position to pick one of these guys and it seems that Curry will be the man.

Dumars was in an excellent position to pick the last coach and he screwed the pooch. He should leave this decision up to us and our poll.

Oh yeah...I forgot about that. Maybe he should go with the poll.

I was of the understanding that Joe's first choice was Nate McMillan. Flip was Bill Davidson's guy.

    Am I wrong about this?

The thing I don't understand is why Cloud thinks Rick Fox will be the next coach.

I don't understand why Cloud thinks Rufus would respond better to Rick Fox than Rick James.

Shock play tonight. Take a peek at the game while waiting for the Wings to start.

James stole the great majority of his stuff from Rufus.

Just another imitator, trying to earn the title "Master of the Electric Slide"

Rufus would never run a play RJ called on the sideline.

If I remember correctly, Portland hired Nate before Joe had the chance...so we ended up with second fiddle. I wanted Laimbeer back then too and took a lot of crap for suggesting it.

I thin this thread has gone way too one sided: most of posts try to leave impression like it has been a big unjustice for laimbeer not for being head- or assistant coach in NBA.

But has one question asked somewhere here?

what has laimbeer done to get in position? Has he tried hard enough?

    Probably no.

So before discussion continues, take those questions into consideration.

Maybe I'm too harsh but too many posters sound like: "I want him, I want this". But does he want?

And does he even want the job? Curry does.

Well, the focus of these posts is on whether he has earned the right to the Pistons job, not whether he has earned the right to a head coaching job with another franchise. With regard to the Pistons job, he has worked for Bill D.'s Shock as head coach and general manager since 2002 and won two titles. You could at least argue that on that basis he has done more to earn the Pistons job than has Michael Curry, who seems to be the front-runner. As you suggested in another thread, one WNBA title is the equivalent of two NBA titles, which means that he has the equivalent of four NBA titles with a Bill D.-owned team.

Shock Season preview on FSN. Definitely worth looking at if you want to know what Laimbs has had to work with.

    Edited to add:

This will also give you some feel for what kind of attitude that Beer has instilled in his team. They say the players become an extension of their coach.

He may have "earned right" but it doesn't mean that he wants it. So my question remains "legal".

Cheryl Ford - "Bill isn't is tough as people think he is. He can be when he need to be but he has become more patient."

Katie Smith - "He will do whatever it takes to get us to the top. We have complete faith in him."

Players perspectives from the State of Shock season preview.

    Laimbs up next.

Rax, it is possible that Lamb does not want the job, or has mixed feelings about the job, and is happy where he is. But if that were the case, why wouldn't he or somebody else have said so publicly, in order to nip all of this discussion in the bud (along with the innuendo that the Pistons do not regard him as head coaching material)? We are not the first ones to broach this possibility, and the subject even came up when LB was fired.

Consolation Prize of getting to the finals is never one you want to swallow. Our goal every year is to win the Eastern Conference. You can't play for a Championship if you don't win the Eastern Conference. - Bill Laimbeer

Amazing how Katie Smith and Deana Nolan's games mirror Chauncey and Rips games.
