He looks like a shorter JaVale McGee.
I'd take Javale McGee.
So would I. I think he'd complement GM pretty well.
Givony at DraftExpress tweeted about Biyombes workout. Jonathan Givony @DraftExpress Jonathan Givony Two minutes in and you can already tell that Bismack Biyombo is not a "workout guy". Looks very nervous, airballing layups.Really struggling Jonathan Givony DraftExpress Jonathan Givony Despite the bad hands, the lack of skills & general polish, you still can't teach the agility & explosiveness Bismack Biyombo's showing here Jonathan Givony DraftExpress Jonathan Givony I think Bismack Biyombo would have been better off playing one game of 5 on 5 to truly show the impact he can make. He's not a 1 on 0 type. DraftExpress Jonathan Givony Biyombo just shot more jumpers in this workout than he will in his entire career. And he missed most of them. Don't understand the strategy. DraftExpress Jonathan Givony NBA exec: "People who liked Biyombo already won't change their opinion after this today. But those who were skeptical will be even more now"
So I guess we draft a big European Slug.............
Depends on who's perception is picking. This should disregard those nasty Germans. Alert!!!! To those authority levels...the preview level is broken.
I'm guessing Ben was raw-er. The Biz does look pretty rough though.
It would be fun to hear Blaha say this after each Bismack block: "Beee-yomb-outta-here!"
You can say he didn't take the path through Duke on his way to the draft. Here is a nice piece about Biyombo and where he is from. He is an interesting story and seems to be a great guy. The URL says insider but I'm no insider and I can read it. 2011 NBA draft: Bismack Biyombo's meteoric rise - ESPN
I wonder if Biyombe's our guy. I'd sure love having Ben Wallace 2.0 on our team. I guess I'd be happy if Joe picks him, IF nobody else with a super-high upside is available. But I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't pull the trigger on Fredette if he's available. On our team, a guy who's a super shooter - and he's supposed to be one of the very best from any position on the court -- to go with Stuckey at SG (not a great shooter, but a great penetrator), Daye at SF (another super shooter), Monroe and JJ -- that could be a dynamic offense grouping. Just surmising. I'd still rather add a top young big man to team with Monroe.
Considering the list of guys we'll probably pick among maybe Jimmer is the pick, but well have a collection of small guards in Jimmer, Rodney, Bynum and Bengo. A brief summary of the non-Jimmer choices: Bismack Biyombo - Kwame Brown-ish ability to catch passes, possible George Blaha-ish age and Jerebko-ish hook shot. Kemba Walker - Rodney Stuckey without the size and with the wingspan of a T-Rex. Jan Vesely - A SF who can't defend SF's and shoots like Ben Wallace. Jonas Valanciunas - Foul-prone center with the strength of Austin Daye. Donatas Motiejunas - Yet to record his first career rebound. Alec Burks - Poor shooting mechanics and plays the same position as 60 percent of the Pistons payroll. Tristan Thompson - Amir 0.5. Kawhi Leonard - Who? I think I'll take my chance on a big unless it's Donut but I wouldn't object strongly to a Jimmer pick.
coynejeremy likes this post. I can't wait for us to draft Jimmer so that I can start berating our future coach for not playing him enough.
Forgot appoint a player called Darko M... My hope is Valanciunas or Biyombo because our hole in the paint, with valanciunas skilling in europe we can really tank one year and land one top 4 player next draft. With this scenario draft, free agents available and the opportunity for many years as a golden state or the Sixers, with no options of rings, the best option is to release salary, develop our young core with new coach and really tanking. The summer of next year Gores and could try to bring a good PG or free agent.
I'm with you on this one, Carlos.
I say that we take Jimmer. Shortly before the season starts, spread the rumor that he has been the biggest surprise in franchise history based on his 80% shooting in practice and tireless work ethic (stays in the gym til 5:00AM, wakes up at 7:00AM to start weightlifting, etc). Start him ahead of Rip and Ben Gordon to start the season and make sure that every play is run for him to get his scoring average up over 20 ppg. Then try to package him with Rip, Ben Gordon, Charlie V, and Maxiell for whatever we can get back.
I love that description.
First off I would die laughing if the ball was on the way down in this photo and this was one of his air balls. Secondly, didn't we post a season preview prior to last year that was filled with phrases like "not very good shooters and even worse ball handlers...." and "they don't have a lot of size, but their perimeter D is atrocious."? These snippets kind of remind me of that. Thirdly, who can't play 1 on none basketball? That being said I want this guy. He'll develop really well in Detroit. Hopefully they won't even play him or send him to the D league his first year. If this guy was trying to learn a new position I'd violate the CBA to sign him.
The 7'7" wingspan could be pretty effective on D. I believe that would be the 2nd largest wingspan in the NBA behind Sene and just ahead of Tay. Tay, Maxiell, and Biyombe would make for a nice zone. Quick and they wouldn't have to jump to annoy shooters.
How much more of a red flag can there be then the guy doesn't look good playing by himself? Even Darko dominated the chair. This would be like if Charlie V was in the gym working on his defensive slides (bear with me just for the sake of the argument please) and the bleachers started blowing by him for layups.
